Block Assembly1. Lay out four green 1 7/8˝ squares, four blue largefloral 1 7/8˝ x 3 3/8˝ rectangles, and one white floral3 3/8˝ square in a nine-patch arrangement. Join thepieces into rows and then join the rows to completethe unit. Repeat to make a total of six units.

2. Lay out two white floral 1 1/2˝ squares, one bluelarge floral 1 1/2˝ square, and one navy 1 1/2˝ square ina four-patch arrangement. Join the pieces into rowsand then join the rows to make a four-patch unit.Repeat to make 24 units.

3. Sew navy 2 7/8˝ triangles to adjacent sides of afour-patch unit from step 2 to make a triangular unit,making sure to sew the triangles to the blue largefloral side of the four-patch unit. Repeat to make 24triangular units.

4. Sew four triangular units from step 3 to a unit fromstep 1 to complete the center unit. Repeat to make sixcenter units.

5. Lay out two white 1 1/2˝ squares, one blue (diagonal)stripe 1 1/2˝ square, and one navy 1 1/2˝ square in afour-patch arrangement. Join the pieces into rows andthen join the rows to make a four-patch unit. Repeat tomake 48 units.

6. Lay out two white 2 1/2˝ squares and two four-patchunits from step 5 in a four-patch arrangement. Join thepieces into rows and then join the rows to make adouble-four-patch unit. Repeat to make 24 units.

7. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on thewrong side of each white 2 1/2˝ square. Place a markedsquare on one end of a blue small floral 2 1/2˝ x 4 1/2˝rectangle. Sew on the marked line. Trim the excess fab-ric leaving a 1/4˝ seam allowance and press toward thetriangle. Repeat to make 24 units and 24 reversedunits, as shown in the diagram following step 11.(You’ll have 48 marked squares left over.)

8. Place a marked white square from step 7 on onecorner of a blue large floral 4 1/2˝ square. Sew on themarked line. Trim the excess fabric leaving a 1/4˝ seamallowance and press toward the triangle. In the sameway, sew a second marked white square to an adjacentside of the blue large floral square. Repeat to make 12units.

9. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on thewrong side of each white floral 2 1/2˝ square. Repeatstep 8, sewing white floral squares to the remainingtwo sides of each unit. Make 12 floral square-in-a-square units.

10. Repeat steps 8 and 9, using the marked whitesquares, marked white floral squares, and the bluestripe 4 1/2˝ squares. Make 12 striped square-in-a-square units.

11. Sew one unit and one reversed unit from step 7 toopposite sides of each floral unit as shown. Make 12side units. Repeat to make 12 side units using thestriped square-in-a-square units.

12. Lay out one center unit, four double-four-patchunits, two floral side units, and two striped side unitsin a nine-patch arrangement. Join the pieces into rowsand then join the rows to complete a block. Repeat tomake six blocks.

13. Using the leftover scraps of small blue floral, applyfusible web to the wrong side of the fabric followingthe manufacturer’s instructions. Cut out 36 flowers.On each block, fuse three flowers on top of each largestriped square as shown in the photo. Finish the rawedges using a decorative stitch of your choice.

Inner Border Assembly14. Using the 1 1/2˝ squares of blue large floral, whitefloral, small blue floral, blue stripe, and navy; randomlyjoin 32 squares to make a 32 1/2˝ long strip. Sew a bluestripe 32 1/2˝-long strip to both long sides of the piecedstrip to make a top unit. Repeat to make a bottom unit.

15. Randomly join 48 blue large floral, white floral,small blue floral, blue stripe, and navy 1 1/2˝ squares tomake a 48 1/2˝-long strip. Sew a blue stripe 48 1/2˝-longstrip to both long sides of the pieced strip to make aside unit. Repeat to make a second side unit.

16. Join five blue large floral 1 1/2˝ squares and fourgreen 1 1/2˝ squares to make a nine-patch unit. Repeatto make four units.

Outer Border Assembly17. Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on thewrong side of each navy 1 1/2˝ square. Place a markedsquare on one end of a white 1 1/2˝ x 2 1/2˝ rectangle.Sew on the marked line. Trim the excess fabric leavinga 1/4˝ seam allowance and press toward the triangle. Inthe same manner, sew a marked square on the otherend of the white rectangle to make a flying-geese unit.Repeat to make 40 white/navy units.

18. Place a marked navy square from step 17 on onecorner of a white floral 2 1/2˝ square. Sew on themarked line. Trim the excess fabric leaving a 1/4˝ seamallowance and press toward the triangle. In the sameway, sew marked navy squares to the remaining threesides of the floral square. Repeat to make 36 units.

19. Repeat step 17, using the remaining marked navysquares and the white floral 1 1/2˝ x 2 1/2˝ rectangles tomake 16 floral/navy flying-geese units.

20. Sew blue striped 1 1/2˝ x 3 1/2˝ rectangles to bothlong sides of a blue large floral 1 1/2˝ x 3 1/2˝ rectangleto make a border unit. Make eight of these units.

21. Join two floral/navy flying-geese units, one whitefloral 1 1/2˝ square, and one large blue floral 2 1/2˝square to make a corner unit. Repeat to make fourunits.

22. Referring to the photo for placement guidance,sew a white/navy flying-geese unit to one side of eachblue large floral 2 1/2˝ square. Make 20 units. Sew awhite/navy flying-geese unit to one side of each bluesmall floral 2 1/2˝ square. Make 20 units.

23. Sew a white 1 1/2˝ x 2 1/2˝ rectangle to one side ofeach unit from step 18. Make 36.

24. Sew a white 1 1/2˝ square to one end a floral/navyflying geese unit. Make four end units and fourreversed end units.

25. For each side border, join six blue large floral unitsand six blue small floral units from step 22 and 11units from step 23, alternating them as shown in thephoto to make a pieced strip. Sew an end unit and areversed end unit to the ends of the strip; then add aborder unit from step 20 to each end to make a sideborder unit. Repeat to make a second side border unit.

26. For the top border, join four blue large floral unitsand four blue small floral units from step 22 and sevenunits from step 23, alternating them as shown in thephoto to make a pieced strip. Sew an end unit and areversed end unit to the ends of the strip; then add aborder unit from step 20 and a corner unit to each endto complete the border unit. Repeat to make a bottomborder unit.

Quilt Assembly27. Join the blocks in three rows of two blocks each.Join the rows to complete the quilt center.

28. Sew the side inner-border units to opposite sidesof the quilt center. Sew a nine-patch unit from step 16to the ends of the top and bottom border units andthen sew the border units to the quilt top to completethe inner border.

29. Join the side, top, and bottom outer-border unitsto the quilt top.

30. Layer the quilt top with batting and backing;baste. Quilt as desired. Using the striped bias bindingstrips, bind the edges to finish.
