Results & Success

• Most successful tournament we have run • Most fun for bowlers according to comments

that we receive • Bowlers are constantly asking when the next

event will be held • Excellent money-maker for bowling center

(both bowling and F&B) • Event only takes two-and-one-half hours to run

How to Host a Fab 5 Tournament

• Select a date and time when you would like to realize a significant increase in revenue –

at least six weeks into the future. • Have your league record service person give you a list of your league bowlers by

average. • Choose the bowlers with the top averages or your best customers to captain your teams.

The number of captains chosen should coincide with the number of lanes you have in your center. (Example: A 24-lane center should select 24 captains.)

• Compose a letter to your prospective team captains and personally deliver the letter yourself. (A sample of the letter you might use is included).

• Once you have a full field of team captains create a sign up board to put on display. Have each team captain’s name on the board with their teammates.

• Once your tournament is full you can get the lane assignments and score recaps ready to go for the day of the tournament. Once the line-up is set they cannot change it.

• Have your team captains arrive about 30 minutes before your scheduled time of the actual tournament for a captain’s meeting. In the meeting thank them & explain the rules for this event.

• Have the team captains give you a short biography of the team that you can use for an introduction. (Example on the next page).

• Be creative in doing a special introduction of the team. • After introductions, begin your 10-game Baker Style Tournament. • At the completion of the 10 games tabulate the scores as accurately and quickly as

possible. Cut to the top 4 teams for a stepladder final. • Seed the teams for the finals by the order they finished the 10-game qualifier. (Example:

4th bowls 3rd ; the winner bowls the 2nd highest qualifier and the winner of that match goes on to bowl the top qualifier for the championship.)

• Each match in the stepladder finals is a one game match with the winner moving on. (Don’t forget the handicap in the finals.)

• You can have a pair of lanes for the higher qualifying teams to practice on during other stepladder matches if you like.

Once you have completed your first Fab 5 Tournament be prepared to begin planning your second because the bowlers that participated in the first will be demanding it.

accumulated averages and the difference between 950 total team average. Negative handicap will be deducted from teams over 950.

4. Once your lineup is set you CANNOT change it 5. Bowlers starting on odd lanes move left, bowlers starting

on even lanes move right after every game. 6. Top 4 teams advance to the stepladder round 7. Tournament Director is the final authority on all state finals

BCSC’s Fab 5 Tournament What is a Fab 5 Tournament? The Fab 5 Tournament is a 5 person per team tournament that bowls 10 games using the Baker Style Format. (Baker Style Format: Each bowler bowls 2 frames per game. The first bowler bowls the 1st and 6th frames, the second bowler bowls the 2nd and 7th frames, the third bowler bowls the 3rd and 8th frames, the fourth bowler bowls the 4th and 9th frames and the fifth bowler bowls the 5th and 10th frames). At in house qualifying a team could consist of 4 bowlers, you don’t want to turn bowlers away (5 per team are REQUIRED at State Finals). The teams move one lane after each game. The even lane moves right to the next even lane, the odd lane moves left to the next odd lane. Example; lane 4 moves to lane 6, lane 3 moves to lane 1. Each team bowls on ONE lane, not alternating.

Maximum entering average is 1079 and the minimum entering average is 700 per team. This tournament is handicapped at 100% of the team’s accumulated averages and the difference between 950 total team average or 190 per baker game average. Negative handicap is given to any team that should load their teams up with high average bowlers. This method of handicapping makes this the fairest, most competitive tournament you will ever see. Use highest of 2014-2015 or 2015-2016 book average unless the bowler has a 10 pin higher average in current 21+ game league. Please use handicap chart attached. Ex. Team average of 865 is 173 per baker game average and 17 pins of handicap per game.

The team gets 17 pins handicap per game. 173 + 17 = 190

Team average of 1020 is 204 per baker game average and -14 pins of handicap per game The team loses 14 pins handicap per game. 204 – 14 = 190
