LOCATION_

This was shot at a private greenspace preserve connecting Manual Antonio National Park with the nearby forest. Thelocation acts as a wildlife corridor for the many animals thatinhabit the park. We were hoping to shoot butterflies at the local

butterfly garden, but found a more interesting quarry instead.

INSPIRATION _It was a muggy and overcast day. We were deep in the jungleand it was dark. The sun started to break through and made a shaft of light onto the croc. He was startled by another croc andstarted to charge forward. Luckily, we were pretty far away ona bridge (thank god for zoom lenses). I had been shooting atslower shutter speeds due to the low light conditions, but in thiscase, it helped to capture the motion of his charge.

SHOT SETUP TIME_

I wish I could say that I had a troop of assistants toting all of my gear deep into the jungle, but the truth is I was with my family and only had my 7D, my walking around lens and a 50mm in my pocket. One of those times that it just worked out.

LOCATION_

I was driving out to the airport to pickup a friend, waiting for his ‘got my bags’ phone call, when I pulled off an exit

and noticed the massive size of the clouds rolling in.

INSPIRATION _

At the time I took this shot, I noticed the massive cloudsrolling in made the mountains below them look miniscule.I sat there in my car thinking about how excited I used toget seeing these same mountains pop up on the horizon whenever my family would make the drive out to Denverfrom Cleveland to visit my sister. Back then seeing thesemountains were an indication that my endless laps on our200 vertical foot-hills in Ohio were about to pay off as I’dfinally arrived in “ski country”, and I’d soon be bragging to my friends back in Cleveland how I got to ski actualmountains for a week!

SHOT SETUP TIME_No time at all really. I shot it from the driver’s seat of my ’08 Outback, so I rolled down the window and shot away as I listened to Youth Brigade’s “To Sell The Truth”. Notthe worst way to take some pictures.

COLOR IN COSTALIMON, COSTA RICA

IAM IL LALOCATION_

I was covering the La Ruta Bike Race. It is a 4day XC race across Costa Rica. It is brutal. As a

photographer it sucked and as an athlete it musthave been absolute hell.

INSPIRATION _I traveled across Costa Rica on foot, motorbike,

ATV and in a jeep and all in the rain. The race wasover 4 days and when I finally got to the last day Ihad taken so many images that I was almost overit, not to mention the mud and rain. The wholetime I wanted some colors and some scenery thatexplained the culture I had seen over the last 3days. Sometimes this is hard when your main focusis capturing the sport. I finally found it on the lastday heading into Limon. This abandon house was

beside a train track, the area was poor and ridershad to ride 10km of train tracks after this. It is my favorite image from the trip.

SHOT SETUP TIME_I jumped of the motorbike and ran ahead to get theleaders passing by. I shot from the chair out andthrough a window as the leaders passed. I then shotthe chair from the outside. It was not very long.
