Recycled rubber floors are an excellent alternative choice over carpet or hard surface flooring types, such as VCT or Luxury vinyl. FORTIUS MaTTe Seal & FINISHRecycled rubber tire floors have become the floor of choice in sports and rehab environments. However, the spongy char-acteristics and open pores of the floor make cleaning very difficult. Most finishes utilized are not designed to give great adhesion, resulting in; poor clean-ability, frequent finish reapplications, and finish flaking from the surface.

Prep Procedure Recycled Rubber Floors

Standard Prep Procedure for Recycled Rubber Floors

It is extremely critical, new or unfinished, that recycled rubber floors are thoroughly cleaned before applying Fortius Sealer and Finish. There exists on new rubber floors many contaminants that will prevent proper adhsion of any finishes to the rubber. ***A simple test to detect the contaminants is to pour a small amount of water on the new rubber. The water will have a beading effect. This is a result of the materials used in the manufacturing process.

The Critical Cleaning Process:

1. Mix one (1) gallon of CLN-150 to four (4) gallons of water2. Spread liberally the solution on the surface.3. Allow the solution to dwell 10-15 minutes4. With a black pad or brush attachment on a low speed machine, scrub

the entire area, working back and forth ane overlapping.5. Extract stripper solution from the floor.6. Check for any water beading on the surface. If any water beading is

occuring, continue to scrub with the low speed machine. If using black pads, change the pad if floating the surface is occuring.

7. With an autoscrubber & clean water, rinse and extract a minimum of two (2) times.

8. With air movers, completely dry the floor.9. At this point, all personnel now in contact with the floor should put on

surgical booties or bare socks.10. The floor is now ready for Fortius Rubber Floor Sealer.

Fortius sealer sealer application Guide

Fortius Sealer The Fortius System is designed for Recycled Rubber Floors. Fortius Sealer is designed to strongly bond to the rubber floor and dries to a satin finish. The Fortius Sealer can be used in two ways: First, as a sealer under the Fortius Matte Finish. The second option is to use sealer as a sealer and finish (2 coats strongly recommended).

Fortius Sealer Mixing Instructions:1. Pour entire contents of Part B, Fortius Catalyst, into the Part A, container.2. Replace cap on Part A3. Gently mix the Part A & B together. Rock the container back/forth, upside down/right side

up for 3 minutes.4. Prepare light-weight T-Bar, to apply sealer.

2nd coat: 500-600 SF - Coverage will vary depending on density of the rubber.

Fortius Sealer Pre-application checklist:• Always clean the recycled rubber floor with CLN-150, Rubber Floor Cleaner before applica-

tion of the sealer and finish. See CLN-150, application and use guide sheet. After floor is properly cleaned, allow floor to dry thoroughly after cleaning.

• Recycled type flooring is very porous and requires extra dry time. Water extraction ma-chines are recommended to remove water pooling in the large openings in the floor. Use air movers to speed the drying process. it is recommended to allow at least 3-4 of drying, after cleaning floor

• Maintain best practice, wear foot protection (booties) after floor is cleaned. It is easy to transfer dirt or scuff the clean surface with unprotected shoes.

• Determine start and stop areas of the surface. Tape off areas/boundaries, if necessary, using a high quality blue or green tape.

• Mark off ‘caution’ areas with wet floor signage and warnings.

Fortius Sealer Application:1. Pour, a straight line bead (1-2” wide) of the Fortius Sealer on the surface . 2. Spread the Fortius evenly with a lightweight t-bar. Do not allow pooling of the sealer. 3. Allow the surface to dry completely clear, void of any ‘milky’ areas. Dry times will vary de-

pending upon temperature, humidity, air movement, and thickness of film application. 4. Apply second coat of Fortius Sealer or Fortius Matte Finish

Recommended Cleaners• Daily Cleaning – Most neutral cleaners are suitable for general daily cleaning, we recom-

mend our CLN-150 and PreCept Multi Purpose Cleaner for best results. • Degreaser – Most general degreaser cleaner solutions are suitable and non-destructive to

the surface of MightyOne HD, we recommend CLN-200 for best results. • Gum & Tar Remover – Scrape with a dull scraper, remove majority of gum or tar, then

with CLN-150 undiluted in a soft cloth wipe away gently. Finish will recover if softened slightly.

Instructions for Daily CleaningMix CLN-150 Daily Neutral Cleaner according to label instructions then with desired equip-ment use mop & bucket or autoscrubber to clean the area. Controlling the sand and other contaminants is the key to a longer lasting more vibrant finish.

Fortius Existing Finish prEp & ApplicAtion

Over Existing Fortius Finish

Proper preparation is critical. The Fortius, even though it is a matted finish, should be deep cleaned and abraded prior to reapplication of Fortius. Abrading the surface will open up the finish to ensure proper adhesion of the new finish. In addition, proper clean-ing of the surface is critical for a successful application.

1. Remove all furniture and obstructions from the room.2. Sweep or vacuum area, free of sand that may cause deep scratches in the floor during

the cleaning process.3. Wear proper safety protection when using chemicals. In this case, gloves and goggles

are recommended.4. With an autoscrubber, first use Praetorian CLN-200 Degreaser Cleaner to remove built

up grime. Mix the CLN-200 at approximately 4-6 oz. per gallon of water. 5. If extracted water is extremely soiled, complete this process again.6. With Praetorian’s CLN-150 Rubber Floor Cleaner, pour undiluted product directly to

the floor, liberally but not flooding. 7. With a flat mop, spread the cleaner evenly across the entire floor. 8. With a low speed floor machine equipped with a maroon cleaning pad, scrub the en-

tire floor.9. Hand scrub corners and edges to remove dirt and factory finish. The surface will begin

to look duller.10. Clean water rinse and extract solution.11. Clean water rinse and extract a second time.12. Allow the floor to fully dry. Use air movers to speed the process.13. The floor is now ready for another coat of Fortius Rubber Floor Seal & Finish

Remove Existing Acrylic Finish

Additional preparation effort is needed for finish a Rubber floor before applying Fortius Finish. It is extremely important that the finish that was previously applied be removed. If the existing acrylic-type finish is not removed, the Fortius will not have the ability to properly adhere to the rubber.

1. Follow steps 1-3 from above2. With Praetorian’s PreCept Amine-Free Acrylic Remover, mix 1 to 4 with water.3. With a flat mop, spread the cleaner evenly across the entire floor.
