Wright On Target. Porsche Customers Sweep Canadian Tire Motorsports Park PWC

Wright Motorsports has been a Porsche customer team formany years with entries in Pirelli World Challenge, PorscheGT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama and more. However,never has the Ohio-based team been more impressive than atthe Pirelli World Challenge Victoria Day Speedfest atCanadian Tire Motorsports Park (CTMP) May 20-22.

The only hiccup for the two-car team owned by John Wright(Batavia, Ohio) was in the first session when a faulty timingtransmitter cost the team a practice time. From there,everything went to plan as Patrick Long (Manhattan Beach,California) captured the GT class pole position in his first racedriving the No. 58 Porsche Consulting Porsche 911 GT3 R.His new teammate but longtime friend, Michael Schein (GlenCove, New York) did likewise in the GT Amateur (GTA) classpiloting the No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Saturday’s Race, the first of the two-race weekend, saw Longlead from “green-to-checkered flag.” The caution-free racewas a strong statement that his switch from EFFORT Racing,who he opened the season with, to Wright, would not hamperhis championship aspirations. The Californian is chasing hissecond World Challenge Driver Championship having takenhis first in 2011. Schein would also lead start-to-finishsweeping the two classes the 911 GT3 R is eligible for, GTand GTA.

Sunday’s Race 2 – Round Nine of the 20-race Pirelli WorldChallenge schedule – started with threatening weather andLong and Schein on their respective class pole positions,thanks to setting respective fastest race laps in the first raceon Saturday. CTMP’s daunting Turn 3 was wet causing seriesofficials to call for a yellow flag start. Once the 50-minute racewent green, Long charged away from the field and, despite amêlée behind him that would lead to a lengthy caution period,

the longtime Porsche works driver maintained the top spot forthe second straight day, as did Schein. In total, Wright Motorsports scored four class wins, four fastestrace laps and led every lap in the both race classes.

For Schein, the GTA victory on Saturday was his first in thePirelli World Challenge. To date, the New Yorker has madesix series starts with two wins, a second-place (BarberMotorsports Park) and two third-place finishes (Circuit of theAmericas and Race 2 at Barber). Long has been a drivingcoach to Schein throughout his career but having NorthAmerica’s only Porsche factory driver under the Wrightbanner brought clear and immediate benefits.

New for the weekend was the introduction of twin SprintXraces. These 60-minute races echo pieces of enduranceracing with the same classes – and many of the same cars –as in the regular Pirelli World Challenge events. However,teams race with two drivers per entry versus the single-driverformat of the standard events. This standalone championshipalso features mandatory driver and tire changes. Porsche wasrepresented by a single entry in the GT class with the No. 14GMG Porsche 911 GT3 R. The blue-and-white rear-engineentry was piloted by veteran Colin Braun (Stanley, NorthCarolina) and amateur Brent Holden (Newport Beach,California) to good showing in Saturday’s Race 1 finishingwith a podium, third. In Sunday’s morning’s Race 2, Brauntook the early lead holding it until the mandatory 90-second pitstop came nearing the close of the pit window at 35-minutes.Holden took over and held the lead until he was passed on themain straight. He would cross the finish line in second-placecapturing the team’s second-straight podium.

Porsche Classic Radio Navigation System Now Available in the USA and Canada

Porsche is responding to the growing demand for a built-innavigation device for vintage Porsche sports cars with itsPorsche Classic Radio Navigation System. Following itssuccessful market launch in Europe in February 2015, thePorsche Classic Radio Navigation System is now available inthe USA and Canada.

This purpose-built unit combines a style reminiscent of theoriginal equipment radios in these cars with the benefits ofmodern digital technology. It fits perfectly into the DIN-1 slotused for decades in Porsche sports cars and is operated bymeans of two knobs, six discreetly integrated buttons, and atouch-sensitive 3.5-inch display. The new Classic RadioNavigation System also comes prewired with a lead for anoptional SiriusXM® satellite radio tuner.

With its black surface and two authentic styles of knobs (bothsupplied as standard), the Classic Radio Navigation Systemblends harmoniously into the dashboard of classic Porschemodels. It bears the Porsche logotype and is suitable forsports car generations between the first 911 from the 1960s tothe last air-cooled 911 (993 series, MY1998), as well as the912, 914, 924, 928, 944, and 968 models.

The Porsche Classic Radio Navigation System comes withkey features of today’s systems. In addition to smartphoneconnection via Bluetooth, the unit has low-interference radioreception, precise navigation, two USB ports, and interfacesfor a variety of external music sources, controllable from thedisplay. In addition, the Classic radio has an internalmicrophone and an external microphone. The integratedamplifier delivers 4x45 watts and can be connected eitherdirectly to the loudspeakers or to the original sound systemusing an optional adapter cable.

Exclusively developed and adapted for classic Porsche sportscars The Porsche Classic Radio Navigation System has beenexclusively developed for Porsche Classic sports cars. Radioreception, for instance, has been optimized for the built-inantenna supplied during original production (which is generallyonly a single telescoping rod).

The device’s operating concept is based on PorscheCommunication Management (PCM). It has undergoneextensive testing at the Technical University in Munich toverify user friendliness, and numerous trial trips were made inthe USA and Canada to test country-specific navigation.Drivers have a choice of arrows and two-dimensional or three-dimensional maps to display the route, and the maps arestored on a microSD card with eight gigabytes of memory.The new Classic Radio Navigation System is availableimmediately from authorized Porsche dealers.

The Porsche Classic division of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG isresponsible for supplying parts for vehicles generallyproduced more than ten years ago. Its services cover allaspects of technical literature as well as the supply andreproduction of original parts, and even extend to completerestoration. The company is expanding its international dealerand service network to around 100 Porsche Classic Partnersfor optimal support of classic cars. Customers can expect awide range of Porsche Classic services from Porsche ClassicPartners. Through this measure, Porsche has integrated thecare of modern classic and vintage cars in an innovativeservice concept, closely linking Porsche tradition and Porscheinnovation.
