Peaceful or Party?

Many of us decided to settle in Anthem, Tramonto and other North Valley neighborhoods because of the resort style living that these communities have to RHU%HWZHHQWKHFRPPXQLW\FHQWHUVSDUNVH[HUFLVHIDFLOLWLHVSRROVDQGPRUHthere is no shortage of places to go and things to do. However, sometimes you may not have the time or desire to leave your home to enjoy these amenities. There’s a simple remedy to that issue… turn your backyard into the oasis of your dreams. It can be fun to do, plus it will add value to your home.

With so many options, it can be tough to decide where to start. Horseshoe pits or bocce court? Putting green or vegetable garden? Sport court or pool? The possibilities are endless. Whether you do or don’t decide to dive into a pool (pun intended), there are all kinds of unique ways to add to your yard and make it your own. To JHWUROOLQJ\RXVKRXOG¿UVWGHWHUPLQHZKR\RXDUHDQGKRZ\RXLQWHQGWRXVHWKHyard. Are you the entertainer who plans to host a lot of parties and always have friends hanging out? Or are you the relaxer, who wants a private sanctuary where you can sit back, enjoy the peace and quiet of the desert, sharing it with family and a few intimate friends? Why would this matter, you ask? Let’s take look at a couple RIWKHGLHUHQFHV

Walking in rocks and dirt is not ideal, so you’ll obviously need to start by covering the ground with something. If you are building the party pad, use plenty of pavers, travertine or stone, to cover large areas of the yard. Your friends will need room

to spread out, move chairs and roam freely, especially if they are suddenly struck by the mood to dance! If you are going for the quiet sanctuary, save money on the pavers and put it into your landscaping. Regardless of which route you go, this kind of work can get pretty expensive. These days, people have multiple sources to inspire them when decorating their homes. Even with all of that information, everyone is bound to make a mistake now and then. Here are

a few common decorating mistakes to avoid.

Hanging art at the correct height can sometimes be tricky. The mistake that happens most often is that people hang artwork too high. A good rule of thumb is to hang pictures at eye level. If you have to bend your neck to see the art, it is hung too high.

Placing all of the furniture against the walls

gives you more living space. However, moving furniture towards the center of the room creates a much more appealing, intimate setting.

Improper lighting can ruin the look of a room. Dimmer switches are a great, inexpensive solution because they give you the control of setting the mood and feel of the room throughout the day.

Don’t over accessorize!/HVVLVGH¿QLWHO\PRUHEvery surface in your home does not need to be covered. Group smaller objects together, to cre-ate a pleasing display. Edit the items you have and only keep those that are important to you. If they all seem important, swap them out on occasion, which also helps by giving the room a fresh new look each time you do so.

Remember, we all make mistakes. Don’t let the fear of doing so stop you from trying new things. Have fun, experiment and make that house your home!

EASY TERIYAKI CHICKEN

Bring the soy sauce and honey to a simmer in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring often until the honey has completely dissolved (about 5 minutes). Add the ginger, stir to combine, remove from the heat, and set aside.

Cut chicken breasts in half, season both sides with pepper. Heat the oil in a large frying pan over high heat. Add the chicken and cook until browned, about 3 minutes on each side. Reduce the heat to medium, slowly pour in the reserved sauce, and FRRNÀLSSLQJWKHFKLFNHQRFFDVLRQDOO\ WRcoat in the sauce, until cooked through, about 3 more minutes. Slice chicken, serve over rice, top with scallions, and spoon de-sired amount of sauce onto chicken. Serve with broccoli.

HIT THE ROAD

Many years ago, a collision occurred in the asteroid belt that sent a 150-foot-wide meteor spinning off into space. The giant chunk of iron and nickel hurtled through the atmosphere, headed towards Arizona and instantly formed a massive crater upon impact. By traveling only two hours northeast of Anthem, it is possible to look back 50,000 years into the earth’s history. The Meteor Crater is the worlds best pre-served, and most well-known meteorite crater on Earth!

Visitors today will experience a crater nearly one mile across and more than 550 feet deep. Admission to the park includes outdoor observation trails, air conditioned indoor viewing, an interactive discovery center, and a movie theater featuring 3D modeling that will transport viewers back 500 centuries to experience the spectacular collision. Along the rim, telescopes allow for a closer look at the details of the crater, as well as artifacts left from human exploration.

For a gradual return to modern day, be sure to budget some time to stop by the Rock 6SULQJV&DIpRQ\RXUZD\KRPH/RFDWHGMXVWRWKH,DWH[LW5RFN6SULQJV&DIpprovides a glance into Arizona’s history. After the gold rush brought miners to the area, Rock Springs became a stopping point for weary travelers crossing the dangerous deserts, including many notorious characters from the old west. The café came to be in 1918 and continues to provide visitors with delicious food, their world-famous pies, and a glimpse into Arizona’s past.

If you have a favorite day trip destination, please let us share it in an upcoming issue.
