Extreme Networks provided us with the perormance and

reliability we needed, said Allvin. There are not a lot o

diferences in capabilities between Extreme Networks and Cisco,

yet there is a huge cost diference. Everyone benets rom the

new network it simply doesnt ail and it used to go down all the

time beore Extreme Networks was deployed.

Beore Extreme, with the Cisco network, while it was stable at

times, it was dicult to manage with all the varying OSs, said Bill

Hurst, IT project manager/network administrator, CareTech. It was

cumbersome and at times wed have switches crashing on us.

Ater the switch to Extreme Networks, the networks been rock

solid and we havent had any issues. Its easy to manage, and were

able to look at it rom a high level so we can anticipate uture

needs and troubleshoot any potential problems.

    The Benefts

The Summit X450a is based on ExtremeXOS, a highly resilient,

modular operating system that provides continuous uptime,

manageability and operational eciency. ExtremeXOS is very

user-riendly, so much so that even without Ridgeline, its easy to

log into the Extreme Networks switch and make changes, said

Hurst. Its intuitive and easy, and where it took ve to seven minutes

or backup with Cisco, it takes one to two or Extreme Networks.

Ofering a comprehensive set o network management

applications or the network and its elements, Extreme Networks

Ridgeline delivers network and service management, while adding

valuable and intuitive eatures that help save time by streamlining

common tasks. Its rereshing to have such an easy network to

manage, because Ridgeline makes it so easy and quick to see any

    potential troubles.

In addition, SLVRMC also benets rom Ethernet Automatic

Protection Switching (EAPS). This open protocol allows the

rerouting o trac data, voice, video in less than 50

milliseconds in the event o a network link ailure, deliveringcontinuous operation. We have EAPS in place with stacking

where the stack is one logical switch, and recovery is in

milliseconds. Weve actually done some hard testing so we know it

works perectly, said Hurst. Then in terms o real-world, we had

to replace a switch and we relied on EAPS, and ailover worked

    awlessly it was amazing.

Extreme Networks is a great option or healthcare organizations

like SLVRMC that are looking or reliability, availability,

perormance and cost-efectiveness, concludes Allvin. Extreme

Networks produces excellent technology and the people behind

the products are knowledgeable and responsive. Im still really

busy, but its not because o the network anymore.

Ater the switch to Extreme Networks, the networksbeen rock solid and we havent had any issues.
