EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
BREAST CANCER AWARNESS
While working for Bloomingdales I participated in Breast Cancer Awareness Month to
support the annual campaign to increase awareness and raise funds to help women. As a
person who supports women with the disease, you are doing whatever you can to help those
who suffer from such terrible disease. Cancer has probably touched every one of us in some
way. Having the right treatment plan gives the person and their family hope about their future.
Helping a little bit is never little. I learned that every little coin, dollar, or effort to help women
is worth the time since I woman gave me birth.
The experience of walking or collecting money for the organization is of great
satisfaction for everyone. This helped me get motivated and continue to pursue my dreams in
life, and the right career path and energy to overcome any obstacle I may encounter in my way
to success. Nothing is easy; however, if hard work and perseverance is included in your
personal life everything can be achieved. Women with cancer had a constant fight every day
but never give up. This has shown me how important is never to give up on your dreams and
aspirations.
AIDS WALK
I had always participated in AIDS WALK while working for Bloomingdales. My co-
workers always supported my cause by making donations. Small contributions which at the end
may be able to offer a solution for someone in need. The walk has hard since you have to see
how many people suffered from such terrible disease. My contribution and donations to the
cause may have been small; but at the end of the journey every little bit counts to find a
solution and medication for thousands of people infected with HIV.
Experiences such as this one, helped me understand and value what I have. They gave
me the strength and desire to be successful in life. I became an overachiever and never gave
up. I am able to understand other individuals without judgment. Understanding someone’s
feelings and problems is important when you want to become a manager or be part of a team.
Everyone in an organization is different and comes from different backgrounds. There are
always cultural differences which individuals or management teams in companies need to
realize and understand.
When applying for jobs or work position in any organization, understanding the
company and management is crucial to be successful. Being a more human and sensitive
individual helps you recognize when you have done something wrong and be humble about it.
INTERNATIONAL LEADERSHIP MEMBER
I became a member of the organization while I was in High School. We helped with food
and clothing drive campaigns to collect outfits for the most unfortunate people during Winter
Season. We had a great job in our hands. However, team cooperation and organization skills
helped us created a very successful program which we did year after year for 3 consecutive
years while I was attending High School.
Organization and time management skills are very important in today’s business world.
Most individuals have to learn to work under pressure and as a team. A good team always
cooperates and helps one another. I have learned while a member of the organization to be
respectful, polite, and have courteous manners for my colleges and other people. I was able to
work in a fast peace environment which has helped me through any job I have held, and I may
hold in the near future.
