All sections of the buildingthat are to be protected areequipped with a pipe systemwith open extinguishing noz-zles. In ready mode, all pipingup to the deluge valve is filled with water. The systemincludes fire detectors ele-ments which, depending onthe site conditions and the
risk, are operated electrically,pneumatically, hydraulically ormanually. As soon as a fire isdetected, the deluge valves areopened. The water is sprayedonto the area from all noz-zles, extinguishing flames andabsorbing heat and coolingthe material on fire. Minimaxwater spray systems with
electronic control can be stopped manually by means of remote control (optional)so that the water flow can bestopped as soon a the fire isextinguished, preventingunnecessary damage.

FUNCTIONI WATER SPRAY EXTINGUISHING SYSTEMS
Deluge valve sets are used in extin-guishing systems where pipeworkswith open nozzles are a must. Theiruse is always advisable where waterneeds to be discharged in largerareas via an appropriate number ofnozzles.
Simultaneously for activation, an acoustic alarm is set off by ahydraulically operated alarm gong,and an electric alarm is transmittedto a permanently manned location(e.g. fire brigade). The deluge valveset can be activated either electri-cally, pneumatically or hydraulically.An additional manual release is also provided.

Electric activation with impulse valveThe electric activation of the deluge valve set is accom-plished by means of a detection system, which triggersthe solenoid valve in the event of fire. The solenoid valveopens, the pressure in the deluge valve control chamberdrops and the nozzle pipe work will be flooded.
In the event of fire, an electric alarm is released andtransmitted to a permanently manned location. In additi-on an acoustic alarm is released by means of an alarmgong. This applies to all activation modes.
In addition, Minimax offers an external panel that enables the manual activation of the Minimax delugevalve set from a remote location.
It can be used for the following tasks:
• Activation of the extinguishing process
• Minimisation of water damage through interruption of the water supply
• Easy and repeated reactivation if required
• Recommissioning of the deluge valve set which guarantees continuous protection
Hydraulic activationAs far as the hydraulic activation is concerned, the pilotline is directly connected to the control chamber of thedeluge valve. The system pressure of the water supply ispermanently applied to the pilot line. Should a pilotsprinkler release, the pressure in the control chamberdrops and the deluge valve opens.
Pneumatic activationThe pneumatic activation of the deluge valve set isaccomplished via a pilot line filled with compressed airand equipped with sprinklers or special heat sensors. In order to avoid a nuisance activation, the pilot lineoperating pressure is maintained by means of an auto-matic compressed air replenishment system. A diaphragmvalve is positioned between the pneumatic pilot line andthe control chamber of the deluge valve. If one of thesprinklers or heat sensors release, the pressure in thepilot line drops and opens the diaphragm valve. This cau-ses a pressure release in the deluge valve control cham-ber, the valve opens and water flows into the nozzle pipe work.
The deluge valve set with pneumatic activation is par ticularly suitable for areas exposed to frost.
