In the summer of 2018, Build Your Future Indiana is launching an externship program, where Indiana teachers and school faculty can gain experience engaging with local companies, and learn about the opportunities available in construction.
Through this 2-3 day program with a company, an educator will:
• Meet with executive leadership, and learn about the company’s workforce priorities, mission, and values.
• Meet with skilled professionals from multiple levels within the firm, and learn what day-to-day tasks are like in their roles.
• Tour a local job site, and see the type of work construction professionals are involved in.
• Learn about training pathways available to students.
• Have an opportunity to communicate educator priorities and challenges to company leadership, and explore opportunities for partnership and collaboration.
The vast majority of construction companies throughout Indiana cite workforce development as their primary concern, and a major obstacle to expansion. The industry, through Build Your Future Indiana, has made a commitment to invest in the next generation of Hoosier leadership.
