As the NET project gears up for opening, there are some things to consider to stay safe around the tramway…Cycling along roads with trams can be perfectly safe, but it’s important to take extra care to avoid getting into any difficulties:• Where possible, always use designated
cycle routes and crossing points• Only cross the tram tracks if absolutely
necessary• If you do need to cross the tracks, prepare to
cross in advance and check behind you early enough to ensure your manoeuvre is not rushed
• Always cross the tracks at a wide angle, preferably at 90 degrees, to stop your wheels from getting stuck in the grooves
• Try to avoid sudden movements, such as braking or quickly changing your direction while crossing the tracks
• When cycling alongside the tramway take care to keep clear of the rails as they can be slippery
• Always make other road users aware of your intentions by using appropriate hand signals
• If in doubt, get off your bike and cross the tramway on foot.
Overhead power lines are being installed ready for tram testing and the launch of full services on the expanded network. The wires are suspended from masts above the tracks and will only pose a danger when touched, or if something is placed against them. It is important to treat the power lines as ‘live’ at all times, and to never climb on anything close to the power lines or dangle anything near to them.

The project to extend Nottingham’s tram service to the south and south west of the city to Chilwell via the QMC and Beeston and Clifton via Wilford (known as NET Phase Two) is nearing completion.
The extension will more than double the size of Nottingham’s tram network to 32km, provide a further 28 tram stops, and an additional 22 new-style tram vehicles are being added to our existing fleet to serve further large parts of the conurbation such as Clifton and Beeston, key employment sites, The University of Nottingham, the Queen’s Medical Centre, and junctions 24 and 25 of the M1.
Offering quick, reliable, cross-city services, the extended tram network will operate every 7.5 minutes throughout most of the day (every 3.45 mins in the city section), with services operating between Hucknall and Toton Lane (via Bulwell, Nottingham city centre, Beeston and Chilwell), and Phoenix Park and Clifton South (via Nottingham city centre, Wilford and Clifton).
Excellent transport interchanges will be offered at Nottingham Station, where a brand new tram stop is being integrated into the redeveloped station facilities, in Beeston Town Centre, where a new bus / tram station is being built, and in Clifton too. While two new tram Park & Ride sites are being installed on Toton Lane, close to junction 25 of the M1, and Clifton South, close to junction 24 of the M1.
