Assessment Objective 1, Manage

S_______ is a super student who approached both the research and the compilation of the final study with enthusiasm and considerable skill and insight. She was always concerned to set herself challenging but realistic targets for producing work and she constantly reassessed her aims within the context of objectives which were clear and logical.

Assessment Objective 2, Use Resources

As her bibliography, footnotes and appendices make abundantly clear S______ researched the topic in depth – arguably in too much detail at times, because the redrafting and editing proved a challenge in order to keep focused. She was able to analyse the material she located and her final essay and especially her presentation were super because they made a complex topic accessible.

Assessment Objective 3, Develop and Realise

The final essay and the oral presentation (delivered at Manchester University) were both tight and focused. They were so good because S_______ paid lots of attention to the need to constantly revamp her ideas to keep her study focused and manageable. Typical of this, she eventually produced a super PowerPoint, having originally wanting to just speak “I don’t want to hide behind a PowerPoint”) when her practice was not structured enough – also her essay was narrower than she originally envisaged because she was able to skilfully edit and restructure it. Interestingly, her oral presentation covered wider areas and involved a public education aspect – it was very well received.

Assessment Objective 4, Review

S_____ was constantly reflecting on her learning and the implications of undertaking the EPQ –this critical evaluation comes over in the production log and it was also clearly evident in her oral presentation.

Overall/Conclusion

S_____ is a diligent and committed student – she produced a great project and her presentation was fantastic – she was a delight to supervise. The experience of the EPQ should help her to excel at University level.
