City of Las Vegas (Public Sector)

City of Las Vegas automates PO processing between 11i and SPL City of Las Vegas utilized Oracle’s BPEL Process Manager to standardize and centralize eight integration solutions between the city’s Oracle E-Business Suite and its SPL application used for maintenance management. These integrations include Requisitions, Receiving Transactions, Item Catalog, and General Ledger information that flow from SPL into Oracle E-Business Suite. In addition, Purchase Orders, AP Invoices, Vendors, and Employee information flow from SPL into Oracle E-Business Suite. A combination of techniques is used to initiate the various processes since each has its own frequency requirements, but the primary tool used is Oracle’s Advanced Queue (AQ) technology. Various business events in both systems as well as scheduled PL/SQL concurrent programs within Oracle E-Business Suite populate the custom Queue in order to launch specific BPEL processes. This prevents SPL and Oracle E-Business Suite from needing to communicate directly since they both communicated to BPEL through the shared Queue. BPEL is now the preferred integration tool used at the City of Las Vegas, and additional BPEL processes are currently being built to further improve the efficiency and manageability the city’s other integration points. Innowave Technology is the SI. SOA Suite, e-Business Suite, SPL

Clifford Chance (Services)

Collaborate and automate office tasks in Microsoft environment Clifford Chance is the world's largest law firm with offices in 20+ countries and a large user of Microsoft applications (like other legal firms). Clifford Chance chose Oracle since their outlook based collaboration approach to share case information was unable to scale globally and provided limited search and case hand off capabilities. Using Oracle Collaboration Server to move away from MS Exchange Server and BPEL to automate office tasks requiring integration to EBS Financials and PSFT HR would unlock unstructured data. FormFactor

(Manufacturing)

Re-engineer First Article (order-to-ship) process using Oracle BPA and Oracle SOA FormFactor designs, develops, manufactures, sells and supports precision semiconductor wafer probe cards. FormFactor was experiencing long queue at the initial design review phase, creating a bottleneck into the entire First Article process. Lack of communication and hand-offs between people and systems led to an erratic hand-off and resulted in incomplete designs. The situation was further compounded by the fact that order-to-ship process required numerous touch points across various backend applications (CRM, MES, Shopfloor Management etc). FormFactor will leverage Oracle BPA Suite and Oracle SOA Suite as the standard platform for First Article process re-engineering. Oracle SOA suite will provide the backbone for flexible and adaptable First Article Six Sigma business process. Process is presumably comprised of 157 activities, 350 dependencies and 50 hand-offs between different organizations. Oracle BPEL orchestrate the entire process with significant human intervention by integrating key applications like CRM (SalesForce.com), Shop floor Management (Oracle e-Business Suite), Manufacturing Execution System (PROMIS from Brooks Automation), electronic design workflow tools (WorkXpert), data sources like File Servers, Emails, Excel Spreadsheets and individuals from 13 different departments. Masterlock

(Manufacturing)

MasterEase using Oracle Portal In May 2001 Master Lock launched a custom online order tracking service, called MasterEase, which the company built in three months using Oracle Portal. Twenty-five percent of calls coming into the MasterLock call center were from customers checking the status of their orders. As this information was readily available in IT systems, MasterLock simply built a system to consolidate the information and present it in one view to customers online. By giving customers automated, 24/7 access to order information, Master Lock was able to recoup its entire investment in the portal in less than a year. Today, 60% of order checks are performed online. Customer questions about order status dropped 25% and proof of delivery checks take a minute and a half compared to three and a half minutes previously, a 57% increase in efficiency and a 40% cost savings. The Portal has proved so popular that many customers have signed up their purchasing agents as well as their customer service staff, warehouse/receiving staff, and sales departments. In addition to using Oracle E-Business Suite, Master Lock plans to use Oracle Portal to build and deploy additional custom applications outside of the traditional envelope. Portal, e-Business Suite

Vico Indonesia (Energy)

Collaborative Employee Intranet Vico Indonesia invited Oracle and other vendors to offer designs of its corporate portal. In the final phase of consideration, however, Vico selected Oracle Portal because it offered several pivotal advantages. Oracle Fusion Middleware’s solid back-end technology, along with the portal's overall manageability and the capability to develop applications on top of it, made Vico confident in their choice of Oracle. Moreover, because Vico already was using Oracle Database for database management, choosing Oracle Portal allowed the company to standardize on one technology platform. By creating a corporate portal using Oracle technology, Vico has created a highly effective and efficient means for information distribution and collaboration among employees. All of their previous intranet sites have also been consolidated into the new portal as well. With the new portal, employees can quickly access a wide range of company publications and news bulletins--including daily reports on total production, news on social events, and a companywide directory. Also, because employees can access the company's internal magazine--through the portal, Vico has reduced the number of printed copies from 2,000 to 500, saving on printing and distribution costs. Most importantly though, Oracle Portal also provides employees with a new means of collaboration, allowing them to share documents, participate in discussions and access Oracle E-Business Suite Applications. Xerox (High Tech)

Xerox uses BPEL and OWSM for order fulfillment between their Europe and NA locations Xerox Corporation is the world's leading document management technology and services enterprise. It provides the document industry's broadest portfolio of offerings. Foreseeing continued growth, Xerox wished to invest and standardize on a common share architecture/platform that was easily scalable, highly available, integrated, secure, centralized and re-usable. Furthermore, moving towards a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), and providing complete visibility into their business processes to their employees, partners and customers were one of their primary goals. Oracle was able to align their strategy with our roadmap and products. XOG Europe runs SAP, and was considering NetWeaver for this project. However, XOG North America, chose Oracle SOA. One of the key differentiators was Oracle’s WebServices Manager, as it allowed them to keep their integration platform generic while keeping security out of the application. The Xerox security team liked that OWSM could provide complete WebServices security via creating policies - which today is a gap and a requirement within Xerox Corporation from a compliance standpoint. SAP could not offer this capability, or convince Xerox of their SOA capabilities. SOA,Suite, SAP, e-Business Suite

For the first phase, Schenker has implemented a centralized RFID event-monitoring infrastructure using the Oracle® SOA Suite with integration to the existing SAP Logistics Execution System. RFID data is captured and filtered by Oracle Sensor Edge Server and dispatched back to a central data repository. The workflow to deal with the incoming data is orchestrated by Oracle BPEL Process Manager. This solution gives Schenker the means to showcase their RFID-capabilities to customers and can scale to eventually tag and track thousands of pallets and other units. Based upon the success of the initial work, Schenker is now looking at a number of other RFID related projects, including trailer-tracking for Schenker's internal operations and the usage of the technology in the area of sea-freight-containers SOA Suite, RFID, SAP

SUMCO uses technology as a competitive differentiator and makes significant investments in its IT systems. In an effort to improve its key engineering compliance with six sigma adherence, SUMCO chose Oracle BPEL. SUMCO uses Oracle BPEL to manage spec registration process integrated with SAP (15 human touch points). Specification Registration pertains to registering customer order specification to manufacture silicon wafer – the specifications vary from order to order and customer to customer. The process was being done earlier by a 3rd party workflow tool (Kintana) and was getting to be too expensive to have it customized. Without the workflow tool it was taking 30+ days to make a decision on a customer order just on the capability analysis – the BPEL Process Manager brought it down to 3-5 days BPEL PM, SAP
