About the performance of Face Recognition function Recognition performance varies greatly depending on shooting conditions, i.e., according to factors such as angles, facial expression and lighting, so operation under all conditions cannot be guaranteed. Because the camera searches for faces that are similar to registered faces, there are cases where the faces are not correctly recognized when the registered image and the shooting image varies much. When facial characteristics are similar, particularly between parents and their children or brothers and sisters, the camera may not distinguish the faces. Partial restrictions on using Panasonic digital video cameras to play AVCHD motion images recorded with the DMC-GX1. •AVCHD motion images recorded with the image quality set to SH mode (1280 × 720) cannot be played on AVCHD-compatible digital video cameras. •AVCHD motion images recorded with AVCHD-compatible digital video cameras cannot be played on the DMC-GX1. •More detailed information is available on our support site: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc Lens Specifications LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 14-42mm / F3.5-5.6 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. About the performance of Face Recognition functionRecognition performance varies greatly depending on shooting conditions, i.e., according to factors such as angles, facial expression and lighting, so operation under all conditions cannot be guaranteed. Because the camera searches for faces that are similar to registered faces, there are cases where the faces are not correctly recognized when the registered image and the shooting image varies much. When facial characteristics are similar, particularly between parents and their children or brothers and sisters, the camera may not distinguish the faces.

The DMC-GX1 features the approx. 0.09 second of ultra high-speed Light Speed AF* which is achieved by reducing

the detection time for focusing by the synchronization of the lens and the sensor at 120 fps. Not only accuracy but also speed excels far above high-end digital SLRs with phase-difference AF systems, thanks to the advanced contrast AF system of the DMC-GX1.

Even higher-speed burst shooting is possible with the DMC-GX1 when the electronic shutter is used – 20 fps at 4-megapixel resolution. Great for capturing race cars and other subjects that are difficult to catch with the naked eye.

Absolute Image Quality with Cutting-Edge Technology

With the dedicated circuit, which reads out signals with minimum noise, the level of noise is significantly suppressed by more

than 66%. In shooting at a high ISO setting, the S/N value is improved by approx. 200% compared with the conventional 12.1-megapixel sensor.

In addition to the high-speed signal processing of its three CPUs, the Venus Engine image processor boasts excellent performance

with the adoption of noise reduction technology for even higher image quality.

By preventing the color mixture which tended to occur around the edges, any chromatic noise, not only in the gradation part but also in the edge part, is described clearly. The engine also provides selective noise reduction to the outline part to let it have more naturally-balanced curve without deterioration of the resolution.

Taking full advantage of the Live MOS sensor and Venus Engine, images shot in low-lighting situations at the high ISO sensitivity setting of 12800 are stunningly clear with highly sharp resolution.

The Pinpoint AF function allows more precise focus setting by further enlarging the focusing area. It assists, for example, in setting the focus right on the pupil in an eye.

The full-area focusing lets you focus on the subject in any part of the LCD. Frame composition is free and intuitive combining the touch-screen operation and 100% field of view. It brings the focusing operation closer to your photographic intent.

The DMC-GX1 can fire off up to approx. 4.2 fps in full 16.0-megapixel resolution with its mechanical shutter. Great for capturing

fast subject motion, such as sports scenes or birds in flight.

Compared with the phase-difference system AF, the contrast AF of the DMC-GX1 boasts higher accuracy even in shooting at low F value. The phase-difference AF system is susceptible to a mechanical margin of error. However, in the contrast AF system, focusing is controlled by the image sensor so that no mechanical margin of error occurs to achieve precise focusing.

A Breakthrough in Size and Weight:Mirrorless Structure

A Digital Design that DeliversBeautiful Images from Corner to Corner

Supersonic Wave Filter to Protect the Image Sensor from Dust

LUMIX G Micro System

The LUMIX G Micro System's mirrorless structure achieves an extremely compact size and lightweight, cutting the flange focal distance almost in half

and reducing the body mount radius by 6 mm. You get breathtaking pictures with superior mobility, thanks to an image sensor that's identical in size to larger Four Thirds System standard cameras.

LUMIX G lenses are exclusively designed for digital use, so that light can enter only from straight ahead. You get superb rendering, with images that are bright, sharp and vivid all the way to the corners.

The Dust Reduction System in the DMC-GX1 helps eliminate the possibility that dust shows up as a spot in an image by placing the Supersonic Wave Filter (SSWF) in front of the Live MOS sensor between the low-pass filter and shutter. Vibrating vertically around 50,000 times per second, the filter repels dust and other particles effectively.

The Lens for the LUMIX G

LUMIX’s pursuit of image quality has come this far. Superb image rendering produces lifelike textures and natural atmospheres with remarkable transparency, while crisp, edge-to-edge contrast and a unique Nano Surface Coating minimize ghosts and flaring. High-performance X lenses crystallize Panasonic’s optical technologies.

Nano Surface Coating

The Nano Surface Coating technology minimizes the reflection at entire visual light range (380nm-780nm) by applying the extra-low refractive index coating with nano-sized structure on the surface of the lens. It results in the super clear picture with dramatic reduction of ghost and flare.
