    Dont Forget

    All newspaper articles are written in the third person.

    Ex. Bubba Smith lost his

    chickens during a storm

    last week.

    Newspaper articles answer the 5 Ws. Who, what, where, when, why???

    Newspaper have editors who look for and correct

    grammar and spelling

    mistakes check yours!

    Title Banner (name of newspaper, date, etc)

    Creative, catchy headline for the main story

    A main story of at least 150 words.

    Photo and caption for main story

    Excellent grammar and spelling

    Other features (ads, weather, sports...)

    A theme that carries through the whole paper

    Requirements for

    this Issue

    Maple Valley The local English class

    has been given the

    exciting task of

    creating the front

    page of their very own

    newspaper.

    Students will

    be the editors of their

    own newspapers and

    will be responsible for

    developing a theme

    for their newspaper.

    For example, the

    students could choose

    to do a newspaper on

    snowboarding, music,

    skateboarding, travel,

    an animal, or another

    topic of interest.

    Each student

    will be creating just

    the front page of their

    paper. They must

    include a picture to

    go with their main

    story. Their picture

    may be hand-drawn,

    from the internet, or a

    magazine. They must

    not forget to include a

    caption.

    Besides a main

    story (with a picture

    and headline)

    students must also

    include some other

    features in their

    newspapers. For

    example, ads, weath-

    er, sports,

    a movie review or an

    idea of their choice.

    Students will also

    be sure to spell-check

    and edit their work.

    funny, silly, true, or

    entirely made-up.
