Exporting References from PubMed into EndNote™

PubMed 1. From any web browser, enter the URL for the Biomedical Library <http://www.library.ucla.edu/biomed>.

2. Click on the PubMed at UCLA link in the left column or click the Key Resources tab and select PubMed at UCLA.

To save citations

1. When you have completed your PubMed@UCLA search, check the boxes for citations to download, or download all of the results.

2. Click the Send to pull-down menu. Choose destination File and format MEDLINE. Click Create File (See Image 1).

3. Do you want to open or save this file? Click Save.

4. Choose a name and location, such as pubmed-result.txt, and Desktop (See Image 2).

1. From the EndNote File menu, click on

New… to create a new library of references; choose the destination folder, type a file name, and click

.

OR

Open to add references to an existing file. Libraries will have .enl as the file name extension.

2. From the File menu, click on Import… to open the Import window.

3. In the Import Data File: field, select the file you downloaded from PubMed by

clicking .

4. In the Import Option: field, select the filter you would like to use to import your references. Since you downloaded your references from PubMed, select Other Filters… from the pull-down menu, then select the file named PubMed (NLM).

5. Under Duplicates, select what you

would like EndNote to do with any duplicate records found, then click

.
