When asked to evaluate a power, it means "solve" through substitution and multiplication until you get
the expression into simplest form
• Example x4 when x=2 is 2*2*2*2 =16
• BE CAREFUL FOR GROUPING SYMBOLS!
• Follow Order of Operations by doing the operations in the parenthesis before you apply the power
These two problems really are different!!!!

• Exponents only are applied to the object directly in front of it!!!!!!!! These two problems are different!

Powers in real life
• Area of square is calculated by side times side or side squared (s2)
• Volume of a cube is found by side times side times side which is side cubed (s3)
• So, find the area of the floor that measures 8 feet by 8 feet.
• If the room is also 8 feet tall, how many cubic feet of air is in the room?
