schools that the Dawn education expo draws its maximum student participation, thereby ensuring
exceptional quality.
Why to be a part of dawn expo
Dawn educational expo in 2010 was organized with the specific
objective of helping institutes of higher learning reach a national cross section of Pakistanistudents who have the qualifications and the means to contemplate further education in Pakistan
or abroad. It was held at a critical juncture (late February) when students had received their final
results and were making their final choices regarding the institute they will choose for their
higher studies.
It has a proven track record of success. Just like 2011 and 2010, in 2009 dawn expo was held in
Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad. It attracted an audience of over 20,000 top achieving students.
Many universities and higher education institutes participating from Pakistan, Australia, France,Germany, Singapore, the UAE, the UK and the USA, the 2009 event was a resounding success.it
offered institutes of higher learning unique networking opportunities designed to facilitate
student-to-university as well as university-to-university interface

My observations
What I observed was that there were a lot of universities but with no proper representation. All
the foreign universities had hired local representatives (I asked a few and they told me that
majority of the representatives here were volunteers from Karachi University). They didnt have
the proper knowledge of the packages that the universities were offering. The only source of
information was for them was university/colleges brochure and a Performa to fill in so that the
universities can get back to them.
PFL being the main sponsor of the event had a few packages but I didnt find a single package
better then Canadian dreams. All that their representatives were saying was wetaking the
students from A to Z but the problem was that the students dont know what is there in A to Z.
Furthermore they were more interested in providing scholarships to needy students and offer
them services on that ground, but still the information was unclear.
For the students A is what the representatives were telling them and Z was what they said again.
Companies know that Pakistani students want to go abroad just for the sake of going abroad
which makes it very easy to fool around with them.
Three companies namely PFL, BCIE and HR were the main students counseling companies. The
commonality among these companies is that they prepare you on how to appear for visainterview and how to fill up the application form, get acceptance from the foreign universities
and thats all .they charge 10,000 (one time) PKR for these services, whereas, all the other costs
like VIAS fee, tuition and boarding lodging is being borne by the students.
At the expo there were only two universities that booked their stalls
1. Thompson rivers university
2. Canadian university of Dubai
Both these universities had foreigner representatives that represented their universities. Canadian
high commission had their stall at a prime location. It was the only entity which had a foreign
representative sitting there to supervise the representatives to answerthe questions related the
student visa processes.

To the left of this stall, there was a consultant nameAUCC (Association of Universities and
colleges of Canada).
The Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada is the voice of Canada's universities. It
represents95 Canadian public and private not-for-profit universities and university-degree levelcolleges.
AUCC was representing the following institutes from Canada.
1. Thompson rivers university
2. Simon Fraser university
3. Fraser international college
4. International college Manitoba
5. Okanagan college
6. University of the Fraser valley
7. Vancouver island university
8. University of Ontario institute of technology
In short, there was no university representing from CANADA by them, they were either
represented by local education consultant or by Canadian universities application center,
sponsored by Canadian high commission. No professional help was available to the students to
satisfy their needs, it was quite vague and obscure. What surprised me was the lack of concern of
the representatives in catering students but more interested in the catering provided to them
(McGees, KFC and Pizza Hut). Looked like they are compelled to stand up there and specially
the representative at Canadian Universities application center, they lack communication skills
and very rude towards all the interested applicants. This has given me lots of HOW TO
APPEAR ideas if in future we are required to take part in an event like this.
