THE HUMAN SMART CITY PERSPECTIVE
“Human Smart Ci<es are those where governments engage ci<zens by being open to be engaged by ci<zens, suppor<ng the co-‐design of technical and social innova<on processes through a peer-‐to-‐peer rela<onship based on
reciprocal trust and collabora<on.
Human Smart Ci<es are ci<es where ci<zens and communi<es are the main actors of urban “smartness”.
A Human Smart City adopts services that are born from people’s real needs and have been co-‐designed through interac<ve, dialogic, and collabora<ve
processes ”.
(Human Smart Ci<es Manifesto, 2013)
URBAN GOVERNANCE AND SMART SERVICES CODESIGN
THE DELIBERATIVE “OPPORTUNITY”
DeliberaCve democracy models are since long considered relevant for the infrastructuring of urban governance DeliberaCon appears operaConal at the scale of people interacCon, small group work and micro-‐decision making BUT it is sCll far from represenCng a decision making resource at the scale of urban collecCvity, of policy making DeliberaCve “actors” sCll “need to find ways of linking the virtues of small-‐scale delibera<on with decision making for larger scale society” (Goodin, 2008)
URBAN GOVERNANCE AND SMART SERVICES CODESIGN
THE DELIBERATIVE “OPPORTUNITY”
ULLs and Human Smart City iniCaCves together are disclosing a promising bridge between the micro-‐scale of decisions and the urban governance mechanisms This bridge can be represented by collaboraCve and creaCve environments where processes of smart service co-‐design take place through dialogic interacCon with and among ciCzens within a situated and cultural-‐specific frame.
URBAN GOVERNANCE AND SMART SERVICES CODESIGN
THE DELIBERATIVE “OPPORTUNITY”
ULLs, where co-‐design of smart servces takes place, are showing to be able to guest a producCve debate between the design (service-‐design) and urban planning disciplines.
