Downtown Rochester is a

dynamic mix of arts, commerce,

sports, and history. The area is

alive with activity among major

corporations. Just west of the

city center on West Main and

State is Four Corners, Rochester’s

hub of legal and governmental

work, as well as a great place to

admire the architecture.

Depending on the season, you

can catch an outdoor concert

or ice skate at Dr. Martin

Luther King Jr. Memorial Park

at Manhattan Square, see a

play at Geva Theatre, or enjoy

The Strong National Museum

of Play—one of the largest

children’s museums in the

country.

Live music, festivals, coffee

shops, theaters, and shopping

contribute to an exciting

atmosphere in Rochester’s East

End. The Eastman School of

Music provides world-class

concerts featuring regional,

national, and international

performers.

A few blocks from Eastman is

the Little Theatre, offering five

screens of independent and

international films, live jazz,

and a café. East End also serves

as a central location to many

festivals and is home to an

array of lively bars and local

restaurants.

For a historic view of Rochester,

walk over the bridge that spans

High Falls. Lined with buildings

reminiscent of Rochester’s

industrial era and the Brown’s

Race mill, High Falls connects

Rochester’s past and present.

This area of the city provides

both river gorge views of the

96-foot waterfall and some of

Rochester’s nightlife. Also in the

High Falls district is Frontier

Field, home of Rochester’s

professional baseball team, the

Rochester Red Wings.

Close by is Sahlen’s Stadium,

home of Rochester’s USL Pro

soccer team, the Rhinos, NWSL

Pro women’s soccer team, the

WNY Flash, and Major League

Lacrosse team, the Rattlers.

This neighborhood was named after the Ellwanger

and Barry Nursery, which donated land to the City of

Rochester to be used for park space, helping transform

Rochester from the Flour City to the Flower City. The

centerpiece of this neighborhood is Highland Park,

best known for its springtime Lilac Festival, which

showcases 500+ varieties of lilacs. The park also houses

the Highland Bowl, which offers live theater and movies

throughout the summer months.

Another highlight of the area is Mount Hope Cemetery,

one of the nation’s oldest and most beautiful municipal

cemeteries. Frederick Douglass and Susan B. Anthony,

two of the most significant pioneers of social justice,

are buried here.

Genesee Valley Park is adjacent to the west side of the

Ellwanger Barry neighborhood and across the street

from the University of Rochester. This 800-acre park

runs along both the Genesee River and the Erie Canal,

with two golf courses, tennis courts, a swimming pool,

an ice rink, and canoe rentals.

Avenue Summer Art Fest. More

than 250,000 people from

the region come to enjoy the

entertainment, crafts, and food.

Close by is the Rochester
