Monday Evening Book Group Third Monday of each month at 7 p.m. Mar. 21: A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving Eleven-year-old Owen Meany hits a foul ball during a baseball game, striking and killing his best friend's mother, and becomes con-vinced that he is the agent of divine intervention. Apr. 18: The Art Forger by Barbara A. Shapiro Thirteen works of art worth over $500 million were stolen from the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston on March 18, 1990. It remains the largest unsolved art heist in history, and Claire Roth, a struggling young artist, is about to discover that there's more to this crime than meets the eye.

Senior Book Club First Monday of each month at 2 p.m. Mar. 7: Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown An account of the University of Washington’s 1936 eight-oar crew and their epic quest for an Olympic gold medal. The team, made of sons of loggers, ship-yard workers, and farmers, defeated the German crew rowing for Adolf Hitler in the Olympic Games in Berlin, 1936. Apr. 4: Liar, Temptress, Solider, Spy by Karen Abbott The book focuses on an in-teresting yet little known aspect of the Civil War: the stories of four courageous women—a socialite, a farm girl, an abolitionist, and a widow—who were spies. These four women managed to aid their causes, either North or South, in their own unique ways.

E nter the Bemis Six Word Story Contest, between March 1 and April 1, and you could win a cash prize! Nine cash prizes will be given out to winners

in three age categories: adult (age 19+), teen (age 12-18), and children (age 6-11). In each category, fifty dollars will be awarded to the first place winner, thirty dollars to the second place winner and twenty dollars to the third place winner. There’s a literary legend that Ernest Hemingway, while having dinner with

fellow writers, bet that he could write a story in just six words. His friends bet that he couldn’t. Hemingway grabbed a pen and napkin and wrote: “For Sale: baby shoes, never worn.” His friends lost the bet and Hemingway called it his best work. Now it’s your turn! Submit your Six Word Story at the main floor reference desk at the library or email it to [email protected]. Include your full name and a telephone number.

A special team of Six Word Story contest judges will review all submitted stories and select the winners. Among the judges will be Colorado Book Award winner Mark Stevens, who is known for writing the Allison Coil Mystery Series. Winners will be announced at a special library program on Saturday, April 16 at 2 p.m.
