Estate carriage driveYou can explore Cragside in your car via the circular 6 mile one way estate carriage drive. Last access to the drive is at 5.30pm (or sunset if earlier)
WalksThere are 40 miles of signposted footpaths to explore and a selection of way marked trails. Please pick up a leaflet from the visitor centre.
PicnicsThere are picnic tables at the play-area, around the lakes and at the visitor centre. Barbecues are not permitted.
Fun for the kidsPlay Area: Crozier Car Park: An exciting range of equipment where young legs, up to age 12, can run off steam. During the busy months, you can buy drinks and snacks from the van in the car park.
Trim Trail: Crozier or Nelly’s Moss Car Park: 4 fitness stations designed to test strength and agility. Along Canada drive, marked on the map. Aimed at 10+ years - adults.
Labyrinth: Nelly’s Moss Car Park: A network of paths and tunnels cut out of a vast area of rhododendron forest. Can you find Nelly’s den in the centre?

Exploring Cragside: Armstrong Exhibition, model of the estate, walks leaflets and general information. A good place to start your visit.
Eating: Tea-rooms open 10 - 5pm offering hot and cold drinks, light snacks and ice creams. Hot lunches served12 - 2.30pm. A selection of afternoon teas served2.30 - 5pm.
Shopping: Gifts, books, garden and plant sales, local food and crafts, Cragside guide book and souvenirs. You can also join the National Trust here.
Toilets, including accessible, baby changing room.
Things to see and do
House: Open 11 - 5pm, last entry at 4pm. Please show your membership card or admission ticket. You will be asked to leave large backpacks, rear baby carriers, buggies and large bags at house reception. Baby slings/hip carriers available to borrow. Allow 1 hour.
Eating: The Still Room kiosk, open 10.30 - 4pm from the start of the Easter holidays until the end of the summer holidays. Serving a selection of hot and cold drinks, snacks, sandwiches and ice creams.
Iron Bridge and Formal Garden: Cross the bridge and enjoy breathtaking views of the house, rock garden and valley. Continue along the path to the formal garden with its magnificent orchard house and views of the Simonside hills and Coquet valley. Dogs welcome on leads.
Wildlife Hide: You’ll find this in the formal garden car park. Come into close contact with some of Cragside’s wildlife. If you’re lucky you may catch sight of a red squirrel!
Armstrong Trail: This circular walk follows the course of the Debdon burn and offers fantastic photo opportunities of the house and iron bridge. You’ll also visit the Pump House and Power House, where Armstrong’s original hydraulic and hydro-electrical machinery can still be seen. There are hands on models in the power house to explain how electricity is generated. Allow at least 1 hour, steep climbs and steps.
