• 205 horsepower and 240 lb.-ft. of torque

• Sequential multi-port EFI precisely monitors the

timing of fuel delivered to each intake port

• Low emissions vehicle (LEV) certification

• Flexible Fuel Vehicle (FFV) capability

Electric Shift 4x4 SystemStandard on all 4x4 models

• Provides three rotary settings: 2WD, 4WD HIGH,

4WD LOW

• 2WD mode is for normal driving conditions

• 4WD HIGH mode is for moderate off-road

conditions such as snow, ice or shallow mud or

sand

• 4WD LOW mode is for severe off-road conditions,

such as deep sand, steep grades or pulling a

vehicle out of mud

• Switch is mounted on the instrument panel for

added convenience

Explain the differences between the three settings. 4WDHIGH is used for severe weather or off-road conditions such

as snow, ice or shallow sand. 4WD LOW should be used only atspeeds under 35 mph and never on dry pavement. 2WD is used formost normal driving conditions.

Electronically controlled five-speedautomatic overdrive transmissionStandard on all models

better throttle response and acceleration

• Fifth gear overdrive reduces engine rpm at

highway speeds, providing improved fuel economy

and quiet operation

and shifting consistency, and includes components

designed to stand up to higher torque forces

• Uses Mercon V automatic transmission fluid that

does not require changing under normal

operating conditions. Under severe operation,

such as heavy trailering, transmission fluid needs

to be changed only at 30,000-mile intervals

• This five-speed automatic transmission gives

Explorer Sport Trac a 9600-lb. GCWR

Safety/Security

Fog lampsIncluded in Premium Sport Group

weather conditions

Four-wheel Anti-lock Braking System(ABS)Standard on all models

• Four-wheel Anti-lock Braking System helps prevent

braking-induced wheel lockup and enhances

steering control on a variety of road surface

conditions

• The ABS system monitors and controls brake

pressure to each front wheel individually, and

both rear wheels together

• Impending wheel lockup is detected before any of

the four wheels actually lock up

• Brake pressure to the wheel (or both rear wheels)

that may lock is pumped several times per second.

The action of the electric pump can be heard as a

rapid clicking sound, and a faint pulse can often

be felt through the brake pedal — this is normal

• This pumping action helps prevent the wheels

from locking and gives the tires added traction for

steering and slowing the vehicle

• Remind your customers that they should never

pump the brakes

If space is available, demonstrate ABS in your parking lot oron an empty stretch of roadway. Apply the brakes quickly

and have your customers listen for unfamiliar sounds associated withABS. Then have customers test the ABS to familiarize themselveswith the normal brake pedal pulsation.

Crosscowl and side door intrusionbeamsStandard on all models

• Side door intrusion beams help reinforce side door

structure

• Beams absorb energy and help to reduce

passenger compartment intrusion during certain

side impacts

safety belts

Point out that tampering with the airbag covers could voidthe limited warranty and cause damage that could render the

airbag ineffective. Tell your customers never to install anything, eithertemporary or permanent, in the airbag deployment zones. Doing socould prevent the airbag from working properly and cause the installedobject to act as a dangerous projectile if torn loose during airbaginflation.

Safety/Security cont’d

SecuriLockTM passive anti-theft systemStandard on all models

• Designed to prevent the engine from being

started without the properly encoded key

• If the key does not have the correct code, the

vehicle will not start

• The system is automatically armed when the key

is removed from the ignition and is disarmed

when the correct key is reinserted into the ignition

• Explain to your customer that SecuriLock operates

through a small transponder embedded in the

ignition key that transmits an individually coded

signal. There are 72 quadrillion possible codes. The

system requires no independent battery power,

and there are no electrical connections between

the two elements

• If a customer’s key is lost, a new one may be

obtained and programmed at a Ford dealership

Have the customer try to start the vehicle with a key thatbelongs to another Explorer Sport Trac. Explain that the

specially coded key transmits a radio signal to a small transmitter inthe steering column. When the wrong key is inserted, the vehicle won’tstart. This is why it’s such an effective anti-theft system.

Belt-Minder SystemStandard on all models

• Designed to encourage safety belt usage by

reminding people to buckle up

• Uses a safety belt usage sensor located in the belt

buckle to determine whether the driver is using

the safety belt

• After the engine is started, Belt-Minder waits

about 5 seconds, until the existing belt reminder

stops sounding

• If the driver is still unbelted after the vehicle speed

reaches 3 mph, Belt-Minder sounds a 4Hz chime

and flashes the existing safety belt warning light

• It flashes and chimes for 6 seconds, followed by a

30-second pause, and then repeats

• The cycle continues for 5 minutes, then the Belt-

Minder System is deactivated for the remainder of

the key cycle

• If the driver fastens the safety belt during the key

cycle, Belt-Minder is deactivated for the remainder

of the key cycle

Audio systems are very important to most

consumers. In fact, many customers may be

more interested in the quality of a vehicle’s

sound system than in many other features.

Don’t be surprised if the audio system is the

first feature a customer tries out on a test-drive.

Because a vehicle’s audio system is such an

important factor in the purchase decision,

Explorer Sport Trac offers a wide range of

audio systems to satisfy the needs of everyone.

Contact your local Visteon Authorized Service Center for specific applications

and installation of dealer-installed options or call the Visteon Audio Hotline at 1-800-367-3333.
