While disaster famously beset the Endurance expedition, Shackleton, through extraordinary leadership and dogged, relentless effort, lost none of the men who were with him; all were saved in 1916. The legendary tale has inspired us as an expedition company, ever since Lars-Eric Lindblad took the first group of ‘citizen explorers’ to Antarctica in 1966.
