The highs were the start of the Bond Bridge, getting the green light for the extension of Duggan Street, and a committee to look into the feasibility of Grand Falls House. The Chamber will continue supporting projects and organizations that bring value, resources, and employment to this region. President Kris would like to take the opportunity to invite any business person in the region who is not a member to join. Our Chamber Pot continues to receive mem-ber and community support. Many organiza-tions, clubs, and churches continue to use our newsletter to get their message out. The feed-back continues to be positive whether it’s members wanting to gain ad space or general comments on the different topics.

Do I have to attend meetings? - NO But, we will keep you informed.

These are the benefits:

THE CHAMBER POT IN THE HOPPER

A committee of Chamber members will con-tinue to meet with CWMC expressing their concerns about the rising cost of this service. A general meeting of its members and CWMC is planned for the near future—possibly be-fore the end of November. Will keep you in-formed.

Efforts will continue to have improvements made to the Botwood Air Port so that busi-ness personnel traveling to this region will have a safe and secure area to keep their air craft.

- ◊ - The Exploits Regional Chamber of Commerce, Lewisporte and Gander Chambers are work-ing together to have the Federal Government change its mind regarding the protecting of wildlife along the North East coastal waters from Baie Verte to Bonavista. Migratory birds like Elder Ducks and Murres (Turrs) are mainly along this coast. It is our belief that personnel located in St. John’s and Corner Brook cannot properly pa-trol the vast area from those locations. This service has been provided by an office in Lewisporte for the past 25 years and need to continue with more patrols and staffing.

Chamber continues to bring in well known business people to address its members. In July the Chamber invited Ed Martin, President and Chief Executive Director of Nalcor Energy to give members an update on the construc-tion of Muskrat Falls.

Gerald Thompson, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, says the working rela-tionship with MHA Susan Sullivan was a good one. He stated she was always available to the Chamber, and kept us informed on govern-ment issues concerning this region. She sup-ported our many projects; helped to access government speakers for our luncheons; worked with us and kept us informed during the mill closure and successfully securing sev-erance of nearly $48 million for displaced workers; lobbied for the replacement of the Sir Robert Bond Bridge; worked for the exten-sion to Duggan Street; and, consulted with us on the future of Grand Falls House. Other things mainly due to her representation were: 1. The complete remediation in Buchans; 2. Numerous improvements to the CNRHC: state-of-the-art OR; dialysis; pharmacy; and, re-building the labs; 3. Youth Treatment Centre; 4. College of the North Atlantic: programs and services expansion. The Chamber wishes her a well deserved retirement.
