Beyond the invaluable content, consider the ultimate payoff—you will leave the conference with tools to reduce both thetime and frustration of implementing an effective color man-agement system. Many graphic communications companiesreport they struggle for at least four years before they reap thecost-saving benefits of color management. Why struggle thatlong when an outstanding resource like PIA/GATF’s ColorManagement Conference is available?

Attendees at this year’s conference will be treated to someuniquely informative sessions not found anywhere else!Adobe and Quark will be on stage together discussing the finepoints of how their applications handle color management. And Microsoft and Apple will square off on the strengths oftheir operating systems when it comes to color management.

And if you are new to color management, this year’s confer-ence offers a special track, just for beginners, including yourown conference guide, Dr. Abhay Sharma. Dr. Sharma, a notedexpert in color management, will meet with you each after-noon, answer your color management questions, and helpyou walk away from this conference with the information youneed to take the next step.

PIA/GATF brings you the best—and only—Color Man-agement Conference of its kind, December 4–6, in Phoenix,Arizona. Don’t miss it!

Color ManagementCompetency Levels

5We have definedfive levels ofcolor manage-

ment and applied specificlevels to the appropriatesessions. We want you toattend the sessions thatare in line with your com-pany’s level of experienceand knowledge, so youcan spend your valuabletime wisely. Our goal is tohelp you advance to thenext level!

Level 1

Interested: Learning about the benefits andimplementation of color management, butcurrently using little of the technology andrelying on internal controls and visual judg-ments to deliver color. Rework and com-plaints about color variation is a concern.

Level 2

Beginner: In the early phases of investing inand applying color management technol-ogy, like routinely calibrating monitors andusing default profiles in common softwareprograms. Profiling software is a struggleas are efforts to profile output devices.

Level 3

Intermediate: Reaping the benefits of inter-nal consistency through applying ICC pro-files to scanners and proofers. Have made asignificant investment in software—meas-uring equipment and color managementseems to work most of the time, althoughfailures still occur and cause worry.

Level 4

Skilled: Working at color management for atleast four years and spending considerabletime and money applying the latest tech-nologies. Characteristics of this level mayinclude creating custom profiles, applyingICC profiles at the RIP, relying on spec-trophotometry, dedication to maintenanceand control charting, and more reliance onsoft proofing.

Level 5

Expert: Likely to have a person dedicated tocolor management who has taken an under-lying interest in color science and hashelped suppliers further develop their prod-ucts. Considerable time and money hasprobably been invested in press profiling.

Don’t know where your company fits in color management? See the detailed criteria that distinguishedcompetency levels by going to www.color-managementconference.com and take ouronline quiz to help you determine yourcompany’s level of color management.

Who Should Attend? Those who have not started the journey ofcolor management through experiencedadopters of the technology—you could be a digital photographer, graphic designer, publisher, art director, packaging buyer, pre-press manager, press supervisor, produc-tion manager, or a quality control manager.Read on, there are sessions that can benefitall of the above.
