Public-private partnership for data acquisition and sharing,a realistic option ?

Some observations:- Focus on usage areas

- More than on thematic data layers- Beneficial to set clear definitions of data content and applications / use

- define the usage and requirements both from industry and public- ex. Unlike its predecessor, SEAPOP has a defined use in industry ERA (data format and adaption)

- More specialized databases instead of bigger, more generic ones - but with data input/output via standards- easier for industry to see benefit and to contribute

- Work towards common industry associations – not single players- Avoid «competitive advantage» data content, Industry will not contribute

- Data owners – publication rights- Limited in time

- Focus on mutual benefit- Access to more data than your own- no hidden data – reduce uncertainty towards best available data- Make it available to public / research (available = downloadable) – Societal benefit
