accommodate (verb)

Meaning: to make space for; to make allowances

Example: We squeezed into the van to accommodate everyone on the team.The public library is careful to accommodate all persons by providing ramps, ____________, and elevators.

extract (noun)

Meaning: a selection or excerpt

Example: Our school magazine publishes an extract of the best poems written by students.

The article is an extract from a much larger work of non-fiction information about robots.

instance (noun)

Meaning: one case or example of something; a single event

Example: There are many ways I can protect the environment-recycling, for instance. The fight between the two teachers was an instance that I hope will not be repeated.

compact (adjective)

Meaning: designed to take up very little space

Example: My backpack is compact and fits easily into my locker.Compared to the old-fashioned walkman portable radio, the new mp3 player I got for my birthday is definitely compact.

efficient (adjective)

Meaning: wasting as little time, energy, and effort as possible

Example: I don’t do efficient work when I am tired.If you wish to be efficient when doing your homework, you will need to be more organized and make sure you have everything you need before you start to work.

hazardous (adjective)

Meaning: dangerous; harmful

Example: Icy roads can be hazardous to drivers.You have probably heard this before, but smoking can be hazardous to your health.

mobile (adjective)

Meaning: capable of moving

Example:I can talk on my mobile phone while I walk home from school.There are all kinds of mobile units nowadays; mobile library trucks, blood-mobiles, and _____________________ .

obstacle (noun)

Meaning: something that blocks a path or gets in the way

Example:With her dark sunglasses, Shauna did not see the obstacle in her way and tripped.Over the weekend, I attended a fitness camp and completed an obstacle course.
