WHAT DOES DAISHO MEAN ANYWAY?
For the Samurai, Japan’s elite warriors, the daishō (大小)
referred to the two swords in his collection. The literal
meaning of daishō is “big-small”; the long sword, called
Katana and the short sword, called wakizashi. For the
Samurai, the daishō was an extension of the soul.
To us the daishō and the Samurai way of life is symbolic
in many levels:
