Our co-chairs, Cecilia Fri-etsch of Stockholm School

grams ever. Thanks to them, we can all expect to have a fun, educational and memorable conference filled with new friends, new ideas and new discoveries.

I look forward to getting to know all of you at the event!

Jamie Belinne, President, MBA CSEA

Welcome to our 2018 European Conference! It’s only fitting that we are in Rotterdam – a city known for its architecture and innovation – as we explore how design can change the way we think and learn. I’m looking forward to spending the next few days with all of you in this fabulous city as we connect with colleagues, meet new people, share innovations and solve common challenges.

The team behind the design of this event has been a

tremendous pleasure to work with for the past year! Thanks especially to our conference co-chairs, Cecilia Frietsch, Ana Herranz and Jelda Veninga, for their leadership and hard work. As you enjoy the conference, please be sure to stop all of our confer-ence committee members to give them a sincere

and much-deserved message of appreciation. I also encourage you to talk with them or me about how you can get more involved with MBA CSEA’s programming and initiatives!

And, don’t forget to stop by the Exhibit Hall to learn about the most innovative products and services available to help your work become more productive!

10:00 – 11:00 KEYNOTE— Applying Design Thinking to the Student Job Search and Recruitment Process Sponsored by MBA-Exchange.com

Design is often thought of as an object or end-result derived from the mind of a creative genius. Enter Design Thinking, which debunks this notion by espousing that design is a process (not an end-result), and that anyone (not necessarily a creative genius) can apply it to address deep-rooted human needs. Paolo Lorenzoni’s talk will introduce how career services professionals and corporate recruiters can apply Design Thinking to surface the latent and unspoken needs of students, and in doing so, deliver career services and recruiting in new ways. The session will explore the design thinker’s toolkit, such as: observation techniques to spot friction and workarounds, brainstorming behaviors to surface hypotheses and concepts, rapid prototyping to quickly test and gather feedback, and more.Paolo Lorenzoni, MBA, Sr. Director IDEO

KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Paolo Lorenzoni Paolo Lorenzoni is a Senior Direc-tor at IDEO. He’s passionate about using design thinking to inform business decision-making and shape strategy. He’s specifically curious about how approaches

commonly adopted by start-ups might inform value creation for other businesses, developing expertise in topics such as new venture creation, business model innovation, and service design. Beyond IDEO, Paolo’s experience has been varied and highly cross-functional, spanning strategy at The Boston Consulting Group, product at Food Genius (a start-up acquired by US Foods), and operations as a General Manager at Uber. Paolo has served as Adjunct Faculty at the Illinois In-stitute of Technology and guest lectured at leading business schools such as Kellogg, Booth, and Rotman. Paolo holds an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwest-ern University and a BBA from York University (Canada).

Key lessons learned that can be applied to any type of institution or situation will be shared about overcoming barriers, securing resources, and building the trust needed to implement innovative programming and a cutting-edge stakeholder strategy.Jennifer Murphy, Assistant Dean of Career Managment & Student Success, Ohio University College of Business

16:00 – 17:15 PLENARY SESSION—Empathic Questioning, Design Thinking, and Graduate Business Recruitment

The secret to effective design thinking is the “front-end” problem-framing process requiring an advanced questioning competency that fosters empathy and trust, and a Western social cognitive approach to mindfulness that embraces limitless possibilities. This session will focus on the information-gathering stages of the design thinking process and introduce “empathic questioning” to help career service professionals enhance student support, graduate students develop effective job search strategies, and employers maximise the success of their recruitment efforts. This hands-on session will open your eyes to the power of design thinking and provide you with a new approach to asking questions that will enhance your recruitment outcomes.Dr. David Steinberg, Reykjavik Sky Consulting, Guest Lecturer at Strathclyde Business School and Cass Business School

10:00 – 11:15 CONCURRENT SESSIONS (B)GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation): What You Need To Know!On 25 May 2018, the European privacy regulation will be introduced for all countries in the EER: the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This entails more extensive and stricter rules, which all organizations must comply with. These rules cover, among other things, the processing of student personal data, C.V.’s, photographs and other personal data that is registered, published, spread and stored. Failure to comply with those rules on time will risk (high) fines. Career Services and recruiting are no exception to this trend. All of us work with the Millennial generation who favours on-demand online video content and expect active sharing and hyper-personalization. To make the most of this challenge, we seized the opportunity to revisit the way we engage with our students and to leverage their appetite for peer-to-peer influencing and crowd-contributing. We want our students to understand the value of partnering with us for optimal preparation, practice and fit with the career transition they want to make. By embracing tech ourselves through co-creation with students, we can enhance our visibility and credibility and impact our positioning as a key partner to their success.Agnès Cosnier-Loigerot, Director, Europe Campus, Career Development Centre, INSEAD; Michael Scott, Assistant Director, INSEAD

Rotterdam is a large, modern, and industrial city with the harbour as its beating heart. The best way to experience the city is from the water, in a luxurious boat. On Tuesday, 17th April, we will depart from the Nhow hotel dock for a boat tour through the heart of Rotterdam. During a 90-minute trip, we will enjoy a ride along one of the largest harbours in the world and take in the impressive skyline.

After disembarking from the cruise, we will enjoy dinner at the Euromast – the tallest building in Rotterdam. This offers a fantastic 360-degree view of the city and her architecture. The observation platform and the restau-rant are found 100 metres above the ground. The meal will then be followed by after dinner entertainment, music and dancing!

Boat Tour & Gala Dinner schedule 18:15. Depart from the NHOW hotel dock for a boat

tour through the heart of Rotterdam 19:45. Disembark at the Euromast dock 20:00. Gala Dinner at the Euromast 22:00. Dancing until midnight Buses depart back to the hotel at

The story of the city, the bombardment and reconstruction, and the drive to innovate that locals still use today to shape their city all make Rotterdam a fascinating place to visit. Everything seems possi-ble here, and there´s so much left to explore. Is Rotterdam a must-see city? Absolutely!

Rotterdam is known for the Erasmus University, its riverside setting, lively cultural life, and maritime heri-tage. The near-complete destruction of the city centre in the World War II Rotterdam Blitz has resulted in a varied architectural landscape, including sky-scrapers (an uncommon sight in other Dutch cities) designed by renowned architects such as Rem Koolhaas, Piet Blom, and Ben van Berkel.

Must See LandmarksCentraal Station Rotterdam, the international gate-way to the city with 110,000 travelers passing through every day. De Markthal indoor market with fresh food stands, shops and restaurants.

Places To GoCASUAL:

• The Basement restaurant of the famous Hotel NewYork, on a 5 minute walk from the hotel.

• Gauchoss, part of a chain of meat restaurants, on a 2 minute walk from the hotel.

• Ono - Very good sushi! A 5 minute walk from the hotel.

• The Witte de Withstraat is a nice street with different restaurants and bars: a 15 minute walk from the hotel or 5 minutes by tram and 2 minutes by foot.

FINE DINING:• HMB - Very nice, but

you need to make reservations upfront! In the same building as the hotel.

• Las Palmas Restaurant of the famous Dutch (TV) chef Herman den Blijker. Across the street, a 2 minute walk.

• Amarone - A very good and classical fine dining restaurant. Make reservations upfront! This restaurant is in the city center on the Meent (street).
