An exponent of an era when industrial design was just becoming a discipline in Spain, this lamp is named after Swedish designer and artist Max Bill, a distinguished member of the jury that awarded him the Gold Delta Award in 1964, the highest of the Barcelona ADI-FAD awards.
Fifty years on, Santa & Cole is re-publishing it in an LED version adapted to fit the HEADLED capsule, which affords greater efficiency and light quality. MAX BILL is available in five finishes: white, black, brass, polished aluminium and opal white and is further proof of the relevance and timelessness of Miguel Milá’s designs.
A GOLDEN MARRIAGE
On the 50th anniversary of the MAX BILL lamp, the union of two products that have won the highest award in Spanish design is an example of the relevance of Miguel Milá’s design and his ability to adapt to technological developments without losing a shred of his essence.

Designed in the same year as the CESTA and CESTITA lamps, this iconic wall lamp from the city of Barcelona has the same opal globe shape and formal elegance.
The structure to mount the lamp on the wall comprises a metal arm and ring that surround and support the globe. With its delicate, unostenttious light, the CARE wall lamp is perfectly at one with its surroundings.

A member of the generation of Spanish pioneers of the 1950s, Miguel Milá played an important part in the history of European design. He updated tradition with such elegance that even his earliest designs are still fresh today.
Milá is the master of the poetry of the simple object, responding to everyday needs with honesty. This is why his designs speak to us from silence, eloquently, generation after generation.
In 1987 Milá won the Premio Nacional de Diseño (Spanish National Design Award) and in 2008 he was awarded the Compasso d’Oro (Italy) in recognition of his career and his contribution to promoting Spanish design worldwide.

At Santa & Cole we have been concerned with the light we live in since 1985. And naturally, in addition, with its best formal expression and material culture. Behind each and every one of our products is a rationale for its design and a will to resolve it materially in the best form possible, rather than in the most ostentatious. All of the products published by Santa & Cole are original in their conception and manufacture. All respond to a question or need. And all defend their response.
This catalogue comprises responses from designers of differing cultures in very different eras. We are proud of our authors. We share their conviction that elegance is beauty that reaches the summit of efficiency with very few resources. It is economy of expression, like a succinct mathematical formula, like a poem.

A floating ring comprising a metal profile and an inner shade that scatters the light. The lamp’s name is inspired by ‘the nimbus or halo around holy images, which can be seen, but is not there’. NIMBA shines light on the centre of nowhere to radiate out in all directions, effortlessly combining simplicity and high technology.

This lamp owes its name to the many things it does without. Designed as the new basic Santa & Cole lamp, it marries tradition and technology with the sobriety of a classic. It is a circle of light in two sizes, with or without shade and hanging or tabletop, and has an adjustable light flow, to meet the lighting needs of any situation with great elegance.

BlancoWhite is an extensive family of lamps that share the same subtle, one-centimetre thick structure housing the light source and creating lightness in the form of all models.
This innovative use of a smart LED plate (using a Dot Cutting system) that distributes dots of progressive concavity across the light surface, becoming more concave the further away from the source they are and creating harmonious homogeneity in the light flow.
It is a new way of lighting that was unimaginable just a few years ago, and that wins people over immediately with its warmth and simplicity.

A magic hand-made lantern, made of a cherry wooden structure and an inner light globe. Its oval volume and handle make it an object-lamp, equally ideal for both tabletops and floors.
This is the little sister of Miguel Milá’s very famous Cesta lamp, both designed nearly fifty years ago. An iconic, almost traditional piece, the heiress of a moral design that adapts to us very naturally.

Santa & Cole commissioned this everyday, multipurpose indoor and outdoor chair for its headquarters in Belloch (Barcelona) from the Lagranja studio, with a result that is stylistically reminiscent of Charles and Ray Eames but is wholly contemporary in its use. With its supportive design, modest price and outstanding functional quality, these chairs today encourage many hours of comfortable use in all kinds of space and project worldwide, including our headquarters.
A simple shelving system to provide solutions with invisible architecture. The folded steel modules are joined together by central connectors that also provide the bookends. These extremely thin shelves lighten the weight of the books they bear, which almost seem to float. A slit in the back provides an outlet for cables.

Founded in 1985, Santa & Cole lives for industrial design, the art of studying everyday objects to achieve a better experience in the way we use them, which forces us to reflect upon our material culture. For decades our editors have been telling the weird from the wonderful, the truth from the fad, to produce a stable catalogue of good Indoor products (indoor lamps and furniture) and two of Outdoor products (Lighting and Urban Elements).
