international markets: more than 400 daily domestic flights connecting over 30 Italian destinations make FCO the perfect airport to ensure the best possible “feeding activity” for long haul flights. This year Aeroporti di Roma celebrates the 50th anniversary of the “Leonardo da Vinci airport”, a story of ongoing successes confirmed by the next coming A380 daily operation by Emirates as well as the start-up of Gulf Air flights as of November 30th. Great news also registered during the last summer season thanks to new intercontinental routes launched from Rome FCO: Beijing and Rio de Janeiro by Alitalia, and Shanghai by China Eastern Airlines. Not to forget the development of Qatar Airways that, starting from July 2011, increased its weekly frequencies up to a double daily flight on Rome FCO – Doha. Athens International Airport Based on a “risk–sharing” and “partnership” philosophy Athens International Airport (AIA) provides airlines with continuous support, combined with high quality services across the board. Viewing its customers as partners, AIA’s long term strategy focuses on airport’s commitment to make airlines’ operations successful and sustainable; to this effect, during its daily interaction with its Airline-Partners, AIA fulfills the role of “airline consultant” acting on behalf of and to the benefit of airlines in a series of subjects related to their promotion at the local and regional market. More specifically, AIA’s support consists of a variety of services ranging from trade, press and inaugural events to the full design of airlines’ communication campaigns and media buying strategies. In addition, the extended line of a wide range of incentive schemes aiming to encourage airlines’ developmental plans to/from Athens is continuously enhanced with ad-hoc incentives and actions aiming to effectively address airlines’ requests for further alleviation of their operational costs especially during adverse financial or market conditions. Additionally, AIA’s market intelligence culture and practice, one of Athens airport’s strongest points, is continuously upgraded through new e-tools and services, offering to carriers valuable market information, analysis and research data. The effectiveness and innovation of AIA’s initiatives and services towards airlines are mirrored through AIA’s wide acknowledgement by a number of industry distinctions, including 9 OAG Airport Marketing Awards & Distinctions in a row, a fact that reflects airlines’ appreciation on AIA’s efforts to stand beside them under all conditions.

Barcelona Air Route Development Committee

The Barcelona Air Route Development Committee (BARDC) was created at the start of 2005 by Aena (Spanish Airports Authority), Generalitat de Catalunya (the Catalan Autonomous Government), the Barcelona City Council and the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, in order to promote the development of new intercontinental routes from Barcelona Airport. Barcelona Airport occupies ninth place among all the airports in Europe on the continent in terms of passenger numbers. The opening of Terminal 1 in 2009 offers a great opportunity for increased growth in air traffic, especially long-haul traffic. The BARDC manages the co-ordination between the above key stakeholders local institutions and is a point of contact for airlines, thus promoting the possibility of establishing new air services to Barcelona. The synergies created among the four members ensure that any actions are co-ordinated and as effective as possible.

Dublin Airport handled for 18.4m passengers in 2010. As the industry starts to recover from the global economic crisis we are seeing passenger traffic slowly recovering. This year we expect to handle over 19.1m passengers. The DAA successfully opened a new terminal and an associated pier in November 2010 with capacity for over 15m passengers. Uniquely within this terminal development we saw the opening of an expanded US Customs and Border Protection facility that offers airlines and their passengers huge advantages in terms of costs and improved levels of comfort and convenience. Also planned over the next 5 years is the construction of a new runway. These urgent developments will see additional capacity of over 30 million passengers being provided on a phased basis.

Marseille Provence Airport

A success story in South-East France ; 7 years of uninterrupted growth In the space of 5 years, the number of direct scheduled flights at Marseille-Provence Airport has more than doubled from 51 in 2006 to 104 in 2011. Over the past 7 years, the number of passengers has increased consistently, rising to 7.5 million in 2010. The impact of mp², Marseille-Provence’s low-cost carrier terminal, was immediate. From 2007, its first year of operation, the terminal generated almost 1 million extra passengers. The strong dynamic also stimulated new destinations (eg. Quebec, Antananarivo, Istanbul, Helsinki...). In terms of cargo activity, the overall traffic has not stopped growing over the past years to reach an historical record of 52 000 tons carried in 2010, and placing Marseille-Provence to the rank of 2nd French airport for cargo. New exciting developments In early July 2011, Air France has announced traffic development on a larger scale than ever before and the opening of 13 new destinations throughout Europe and the Mediterranean (eg. Athens, Beirut, Copenhagen, Düsseldorf, Moscow...). The timing is perfect, as it is 2 years before Marseille-Provence becomes Europe’s Capital of Culture 2013. Marseille-Provence airport is the gateway to France's 2nd biggest city, the main economic basin in South-East France, and to worldwide famous “Provence”.

Vancouver Airport Authority

The Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is the second busiest airport in Canada with an expected volume of 17.3 million passengers in 2011. YVR also has a 50% share in YVR Airport Services which operates 19 airports on 3 continents. In February 2010, 3.5 billion people worldwide saw the beauty of Vancouver through the Winter Olympic games. For the fifth year in a row, Vancouver was ranked by the Economist as the world’s most livable city in 2010. In July 2011, Fortune Magazine rated Vancouver as one of the best new cities in the world for doing business. Inbound visitation is being fueled by the new Convention Centre which is estimated to draw on an average of 100,000 delegates annually. Over the last several years, outbound travel has been strong as a result of an appreciating Canadian dollar. The city is also home to over 700 mining companies and the local economy is strongly tied to demand for commodities from emerging markets. As a preeminent gateway from the Americas to Asia, YVR has the most number of nonstop flights between any point in North America to China.
