The Ag Leaders of Tomorrow is a local 4-H club with 30 members from all over the county.

Members have a variety of projects including cattle, swine, rabbits, chick-ens, clothing, foods, dogs, pocket pets, first aid and Cloverbuds.

The club meets two times a month at the Decatur Community Building.

During these regular meetings, the members give updates, talk about their projects, do demonstrations and give officer reports.

Recently, the safety officer, Katie Wag-oner, gave a report on fire safety and also on preparing a first aid kit.

The environmental officer, Wyatt Manning, has given reports on different ways to use egg shells and egg cartons.

The activity director, Carter Wool-lard, has organized many team building activities to help the club members get to know each other and to work as a team.

This year, the club has focused on community service. So far, they have

organized an outdoor clean up and a flower box and planting project at the Decatur Community Building.

The Cloverbuds have been busy mak-ing arts and crafts and learning about being a 4-H member. The Cloverbuds are led by Sarah Manning. The club president is Jacob Wagoner, the trea-surer is Wyatt Lillie and the secretary is Jalyn Burton.

The club is led by advisors Katrina Wagoner and Mary Woollard.

The Rising Stars 4-H Club was established in 1999. Cur-rently, there are 46 members who have enrolled in 132 proj-ects.

The club is led by head advisor Christy Lucas and project advisors May Carrington, Lesa Wood, Charlotte Gifford, Jim Gifford, Dick Colwell, Dean Crawford and Vicki Carrington.

Meetings are led by club officers Alicia Gifford, president; Laura Wood, vice president; Shelby Griffith, treasurer; Regan Gable, secretary.

Beginning in January, the club meets once a month on Sun-day evenings at Georgetown High School. The favorite meet-ing by far is the annual bowling party. All members receive a

club T-shirt and a fair pass for completing their projects.Rising Stars members are enrolled in many of the differ-

ent projects offered by the Ohio State University Extension. Every year, some of our members compete at the Ohio State Fair in addition to the Brown County Fair.

Rising Stars 4-H Club has been represented by Cynthia Wood and Alicia Gifford as they both claimed the title of Brown County Jr. Fair Queen. Cody Pack, Stella Carrington, Tyler Turner and Logan Lucas, who were all former Rising Stars, were King and Queen Court Representatives.

The Rising Stars 4-H Club encourages you to explore the opportunities offered to you by joining 4-H.

The Decatur Duty Doers 4-H Club is based in Byrd Township.

It is a small club with less than 10 members, all of whom happen to be boys.

Our members carry vari-ous projects, ranging from agriculture to shooting sports and citizenship.

Each year we hold a fun-draiser and donate a por-tion of our earnings to an organization in our com-munity. Over the years, we have donated thousands of dollars to the local fire department, life squad and community center.

Our club is one of the oldest in the county and we are very proud of our club and our community.

The Hamersville Livestock 4-H Club was organized in 1933 and is the second old-est club in the county.

Although our name sug-gests that we are only a livestock club, in reality, our members take a variety of projects: photography, cre-ative arts, cooking, poultry, swine, goats, sheep and beef.

Our club also is represent-ed every year in the Jr. Fair King & Queen contest and have members participate in the Ohio State Fair. We also have members who serve on the Jr. Fair Board.

Our club requires each member to learn the 4-H pledge, meet the meeting requirements and participate in a community service proj-ect. This year, we chose to collect things for the local

Troop Box Ministries, which provides boxes of items for our troops.

Our club holds our meet-ings at the Hamersville Fire Department. We are thank-ful for the fire department as well as our Clark Township

trustees for their support.Previous members of

the Hamersville Livestock 4-H Club have gone on to become very successful and a lot of them are still active in the 4-H program in the county.

Our club is proud of its heritage and the advisors and members who came before us. We strive to con-tinue to offer the 4-H oppor-tunities and provide learning experiences to the youth in our community.

The Mount Orab Ren-egades 4-h club started in 2005, with three advisors and 15 wonderful and willing to learn kids. We started in the Green Township building where the trustees graciously allowed us to use their facili-ties. As we grew in 2006 to 35 members, we had to move to our current location which is the Methodist Church in Mount Orab, where they graciously allow us to con-tinue to use their building. We meet twice a month from January through September, we have a range of members from 5 to 19 years old, in Green and Sterling Town-ship. We do a variety of com-munity service projects.

With Rumpke support-ing the 4-H community, it

sparked our interest in mak-ing crafts using recycled items. Last year we used 3500 water bottles and made lights for campers. This year we are making a recycling project out of used 5 gallon buckets. This year we are breaking up into various ani-mal groups for the members to work as a group in com-pleting an in-depth poster about the animal project they are showing at the Brown County Fair. Our goal is to have these posters at the barns at fair.

We’d like to take this time to thank our parents, the community, and the junior and senior fair board and everyone else who supports us at the fair. We look for-ward to seeing you at the fair.

The Georgetown Happy Hustlers 4-H Club was formed in 1963 when the Georgetown Dandy Dairies (1949-1963) and the George-town General Livestock (1961-1963) came together to form one club. The club has met in many locations over the years. First meet-ing in members homes until the club became too large, after which they met at the Pulliam Building, Rhonemus Hall (Community Room), the old Georgetown High School, Saint George Catho-lic Church, Church of the Nazarene, Church of Christ, American Legion post 180, and the current meeting location Southern Hills Career Technical Center.

The club usually has 35-45 members each year.

Members projects are various; some enjoy taking small animals, with many members involved in Shoot-ing Sports, Veterinarian projects, sewing, cooking, photography, arts, science projects, woodworking proj-ects, club officer projects, and many more.

Some of the highlights of the clubs activities include: participating in the Ohio River Sweep, visiting local nursing homes to spend time with residents, serving lunches at a local commit-tee lunch, competing at the Ohio State Fair, attending the Ohio 4-H Convention, attending 4-H camps, 4-H

picnics, participating in Brown County 4-H week by displaying a poster. The members enjoy the field trip they take each year. Some of those trips have been to Newport Aquarium, Cincin-nati Reds game, visiting the Taylor’s at their farm, and hosting their own over-night camp. The club has hosted many guests speakers including Polly Spiller from Adams Brown Recycling, Danielle Thompson from Brown County Soil and Water, Beth Neville Brown County EMA, Dr. Chalker from Georgetown Animal Hospital, Mike Baker from American Legion Post 180, and many more.

Many of the members also

complete demonstrations each year for the club by bringing in their current or past projects. Members have heard about rabbits, ducks, goats, shooting sports projects, the importance of stretching before exercis-ing, utensils needed in the kitchen, and various safety projects. The advisors also organize some demonstra-tions such as making butter, learning about buoyancy of fish, and leading members in fun songs.

The Cloverbud program was started in this club in 1997 is going strong still today. The Cloverbuds learn the 4-H pledge, how to get along with others, and hope-fully creating lifelong 4-H

Ripley Ridge Runners 4-H Club was established in 2012.

The club consists of about 25 mem-bers, including Cloverbuds, and contin-ues to grow each year.

Meetings are monthly along with other scheduled activities.

Club members elect officers each year and use parliamentary procedure to guide the process of each meeting. The junior leaders of the club help to guide new members and provide mentorship to each member. Adult advisors are also available to provide guidance, mentor-ship, and oversee member’s projects as well as club activities.

Our club is diverse through the many different projects our members choose to participate in and provides an encour-aging, learning environment that helps members to seek knowledge.

Our members show their pride for our club and 4-H through participation in parades in the community and the Brown County Fair.

At the end of each year, the club holds a campout for the members and their families which includes fun, food, song, crafts and member recognitions.

We help to improve our community through participation in community cleanup projects throughout the year, including Ohio River Sweep, roadside and property cleanups, assisting in disaster cleanups, as well as recycling

projects. To emphasize the beauty, we donate

and plant flowers in our communities. We continue to add more community

projects as our club grows. This year we will be adopting a family for Christmas. Our fundraisers, such as baby shows, bake sales, car washes, and Haunted Woods at Logan’s Gap, help make these projects possible.

The New Hope 4H club came into existence in January 2011. The advisors Dan Mitchell, Bob and and Cathleen Becker and Christy Buller started the club out of the New Hope area of Brown County. The club name was also a “new hope” for the kids riding at Cherry Ridge Stables to have a unified and cohesive group of horse enthusiasts. This was a very active year for the new club with learning and activities. Dem-onstrations were given by all members on their projects and we felt our way through the administration of 4H and the activities it involved. Everyone pitched in to enrich the lives of the new club.

In our second year, 2012, we had many more 4H families joining our club. This was our first year to have officers to help lead our club. Officers elected were: President Gabby Barber, Vice President Sierra Bachman, Secretary Shelby Loebker, and Treasurer Hannah

Carter. Our first meeting grew to 41 members and was a major adjustment for a new club. It called for more advi-sors to assist with the many activities the 4H members wanted to participate in.

In our third year, 2013, the decision was made that we would assist with other projects not horse related if one member in the family was carrying a horse project. Shelby Loebker was elect-ed to lead our club and did an amazing

job as a young leader to take over com-munication and leadership of the organi-zation through a youthful eye.

Year four, 2014, our core members became a solid foundation as we grew. Shelby Loebker, our president, came out again with a stronger leadership to our membership with further activities and ideas that made our meeting appealing to our members. Advisors were advisors under the leadership of youth.

Year five, 2015. Head advisorship

was passed to Brian Attinger. President Hannah Carter was also elected to lead the club. Many of our members carry many other leadership roles that make it challenging with 4H deadlines and activities. Cheerleading, basketball, band, science fairs, baseball, family activities and hunting are some of the things our members balance as well as their commitment through 4H.

We have participated in the Brown County Fair, the fair parade, gardening for the Mt. Orab Methodist Church (where we hold winter meetings), Ohio Therapeutic Horsemanship Show and Tack Exchange, Brown County Horseman’s Show and administration, Window Decorating for 4H Week and recycling projects.

Through the past years we learned many things and continue to learn. It is never a destination but a journey that this club balances. We do our best to make the best better!

The Russellville Firecrackers 4-H group was formed in 2007. The advisors for the group are head advisor, Charlotte Barnes, and the Cloverbud advisor, Sarah Kohler, from Russellville.

When we started our group, we had six members, and now we average 19 to 20 members. We hold our meetings at the Rambler Center in Russellville.

Our group is very big on community service. Every year, we have three projects we always do.

We help out with our commu-nity Easter egg hunt. The kids in the community really enjoy this. They also get lunch with the bunny.

We also take flowers or cards to the Ohio Valley Manor Nursing Home every year for Mother’s Day for the women

residents. They really enjoy this and the visits with the 4-H kids. For many residents, this may be the only thing they will receive.

Finally, we hold a senior prom for the residents of the Ohio Valley Manor Nursing Home. They really enjoy this event. We have food, music and door prizes and we crown our king and queen and court.

But we are always willing to help out in our community or anywhere. We teach are club members the value of helping someone out, because commu-nity service is a big part of 4-H.

Our goals for the coming year are to have more new members, continue in all the community service we do, and to instill good values in our members. As advisors, we love what we do.

The Georgetown Hooves and Halters 4-H club was started in early 1990’s and was comprised of a 12 mem-bers taking large animal projects. Today, the club has grown to over 40 members and many of the members take various projects from large animal, small animals, crops, radio controlled vehicles, scrap booking, and many other specialty proj-ects.

Most of the members who take projects through the club exhibit these projects at the Brown County Fair even though it is not mandatory. The Brown County Fair is a way for the members to show the various skills learned during the year by displaying

a positive side of the agri-cultural industry, leading by example with morals and eth-

ics, and demonstrating hard work and responsibility.

Another thing the club

prides itself on, in addition to taking projects to the fair, is community service through-

out the year. The club plants and maintains the care of a flower bed in front of the fairground, provides litter pick up in Franklin Town-ship, helps with the Farm Bureau day, serves on Junior Fairboard, and helps at the Cattleman’s booth during the fair. These Community Service projects are a way for the youth to make contribu-tions and support the com-munity in which they live.

4-H members have to be nine years old or in the third grade and younger ones who want to be involved but do not meet the age requirement can be in the Cloverbud pro-gram. The cloverbuds make a project they exhibit at the fair and have the opportunity

to learn and develop skills needed for 4-H from the older members.

This 4-H club is advised

by Jamie Loudon, Rema Loudon, Susan Loudon, Scott Baker, Jeremy Sweet, Alan Scott, David Howser

and Matt Beath. The clover buds are advised by Kelli Krick-Todd, Sarah Prebble, and Heather Starrett.

The Sardinia Buckeyes was established in 1953, making us one of the oldest 4-H clubs in Brown County.

Our club has a total of 29 members and two clover buds.

Serving as officers as we cel-ebrate our 62nd year are:

• President – Ethan Puckett• Vice President – Kristina

Naylor• Secretary – Haley Fannin• Treasurer – Amanda Baker• News Reporter – Megan

Baker• Recreational Officer – Gabri-

el Puckett• Environmental/Litter Officer

– Clay Fannin• Historian Officer – Emily

FanninIn 2011, our club was chosen

by Kay Bohl as the winner for Brown County, Ohio in the

America’s Famers Grow Commu-nities SM program, sponsored by Monsanto Fund’s. This program supports the organizations that help make rural communities a vibrant place to live, work and raise a family. Farmers enrolled in the project of an opportunity to win $2,500 for a nonprofit organization in their county that they felt strengthens their com-munity.

Sardinia Buckeyes demonstrate multiple projects during the fair, which include market hogs, goats, chickens, market and pet rabbits. We also have members participate in cake decorating, scrapbooking and shooting activities.

The club also gets involved with the community by doing road cleanup and helping keep-ing the flower beds clean.

Georgetown Vocational Agriculture began in the fall of 1959 with Mr. Ray Butt as the first agriculture teacher and FFA advisor at the school.

The program was origi-nally designed to provide male students with an oppor-tunity to learn hands-on skills that would allow them to return to the family farm and become more productive farmers.

However, today’s students are not only male and female but also learn how to apply many other things such as land management, food sci-ence, natural resources, plant science, animal science, and agriculture mechanics through hands-on experience and guidance. This will allow

them to enter into entry level jobs in agriculture or to further their education in advanced levels of agricul-ture.

Georgetown FFA pro-vides students with unique opportunities that enhance personal growth and com-munity development. The FFA chapter gives students the chance to grow through leadership, responsibility and agriculture.

Leadership, responsibility and agriculture are specific qualities that bring our com-munity closer together and are vital in everyday life. Members are taught these methods by participating in career development events, which are competitive events among various chapters in

Ohio.Georgetown FFA partici-

pates in career development events such as soil judging, general livestock judging, equine judging, food science, parliamentary procedure, agronomy, agriculture and industrial diagnosis, outdoor power equipment, public speaking, job interview, Greenhand quiz, agricultural engineering forestry as ways to educate the youth of Ohio on proper agricultural prac-tices.

Students are required to complete a Supervised Agri-cultural Experience. These experiences or projects must be a plant enterprise, animal enterprise or a job placement in agriculture.

The SAEs allow students

the chance to practice what they learn in the class-room and to apply for state degrees, American degrees, and proficiencies through their hard work. Examples of SAEs at Georgetown are raising several head of cattle, planting gardens and selling produce, raising 20 acres of soybeans, or working for many local farmers.

The food we eat, the clothes we wear, and the materials that we use, are all because of agriculture. Agriculture is the science or practice of farming, includ-ing cultivation of the soil for the growing of crops and the rearing of animals to provide food, wool, and other prod-ucts.

are challenged each year to pass along their knowl-edge and leadership abili-ties to the underclassman, which is why George-town, as a chapter, has thrived for so many years.

The goal of FFA is to makes a positive differ-ence in the life of every student by developing their potential for pre-mier leadership, personal growth and career suc-cess through agricultural education. By educating the students in agricul-ture, we have the abil-ity to provide a world that has less hunger, a safer food supply, and a sustainable way of life through conservation practices.

FFA was first founded in 1928 as a way to keep young men interested in farming because many were becoming uninterested and leaving the farm.

Since then, the FFA foundation has developed into much more. In 1969, women were able to join the organization.

Today, FFA members learn that it’s not all just planting seeds and harvesting plants. We learn about agriculture from all aspects, such as the business and science.

FFA has taught me many skills that I can use everyday, from business and leadership skills to responsibility and how to take care of an animal and growing a plant.

The goal of the FFA foundation is to help stu-dents achieve in premier leadership, personal growth and career success.

To promote career success, members compete in career development events which are contests that help prepare students for a career. Members also must complete a supervised agricultural experience project. These projects are what many students from our chapter enter into the fair.

programs are to develop individual and cooperative activities that will enhance students’ life skills, such as leadership characteristics, personal growth, and career success. Chapter Develop-ment Activities typically pro-mote member participation, financial responsibility, posi-tive image and interactions with business and industry groups. The Community Development Activities are designed to help students serve in improving econom-ic, environmental and human resources in their school and community.

The Fayetteville FFA Chap-ter also promotes Agricul-tural Career Skills through “Hands On” Learning situa-tions by allowing students to compete in Career Develop-ment Events. This year, over 60 different students com-peted in CDE events includ-ing, Job Interview, Agricul-ture Sales, Public Speaking, Farm Business Management, Agriculture Engineering, Agronomy, Equine, General Livestock, Poultry, Dairy, Parliamentary Procedure and Urban and Rural Land Evalu-ation.

One-hundred percent of all

Fayetteville FFA members have a Supervised Agricul-tural Experience Program in the area of Entrepreneurship, Job Placement, or Home/Community Improvement. SAE extends the classroom learning experience and pro-vides real-life application of agricultural topics. Sample SAE programs include: work-ing at an agribusiness or other job placement, grow-ing several acres of crops, raising livestock, conducting agriculture research, teach-ing younger students about agriculture, and running a roadside vegetable stand.

The Fayetteville FFA Chapter was recognized as a National 3 Star Chapter and Top 10 Chapter Overall in Ohio for 2014 and had a member who was a National Winner in the area of Emerg-ing Agriculture Technology. The Chapter currently has eight candidates for State FFA Degree, four candidates for American Degree, and six applicants for State Profi-ciency Awards in the areas of Diversified Crop Production, Fiber and/or Oil Crop Pro-duction, Landscaping, Fruit Production, and Environmen-tal Systems Management.

educates us about leadership and agriculture, but it also introduces us to a new life-style. Ripley FFA has mem-bers who have participated in many career events as well as community service events.

The Ripley FFA Chapter gives students the knowl-edge and skills necessary to succeed in the agriculture field. Once students are equipped with these skills, we participate in many dif-ferent CDE’s such as Soil Judging, Poultry Judging, Equine Judging, Job Inter-view Contest, Public Speak-ing, General Livestock Judg-ing, Meat Judging, Food Sci-ence competitions, as well as many other ones. Ripley FFA also holds a Citrus Sale and a Strawberry Sale every year to raise money for larger projects throughout the year. All of these CDE’s give students the experi-ence in agriculture as well as potential. Many of our students participate in these competitions solely for the experience and their love for agriculture. Ripley FFA also participates in many commu-nity service events as well.

Ripley FFA has, in the past year, participated in a local landscape project for RULH Middle School, where we redecorated the landscape and added some small changes as well. Rip-ley FFA also participates in the Pork Producers Booth and the Cattleman’s Asso-ciation Booth every year at the Brown County Fair, where we work multiple shifts wrapping and cooking sandwiches and such. Ripley FFA also has many mem-bers, some on the Junior Fair Board, who participate in other activities at the Brown County Fair as well. The Ripley FFA Chapter

also participates in many leadership activities, includ-ing activities at the Brown County Fair as well as in group leadership activities in November of 2014. The Ripley FFA Chapter also takes several students to the National FFA Convention and the State FFA Conven-tion every year.

Ripley FFA isn’t just extra-curricular, Ripley FFA is brought inside the classroom as well. Our agricultural classes teach us the inner workings and history of agri-culture. Inside the classroom we learn farm management skills, animal care, food prep, and other skills. We have taken students to many different activities such as a program that taught us how to manage a farm in a day. Our students gained much knowledge from that experi-ence. We have a chapter offi-cer who is currently working on her State FFA Degree. Ripley FFA has also been rated as a National Superior Chapter for many years in a row.

All in all, Ripley FFA is about gaining experience in the world of agriculture and using that knowledge to help the community in ways that many others cannot. Ripley FFA is all about the ability to serve others and be great leaders. Every member of the Ripley FFA Chapter practices all agricultural activities by the motto.

In November of 1939 the very first Girl Scout troop in Brown County was issued their num-ber – 1. Established in Georgetown their leader was Elizabeth Schneedecker. The Huntington Hotshots 4-H Club is celebrating their 55th year. The club originated in Fizzleville by Al and Patty Rhonemus in 1960. We have had as many as 80 members and at present has 20 mem-bers. As community service projects, we plant flowers in Aberdeen, participate in the Ohio River Sweep, help with the Aberdeen Home Town Christmas, and pass out blankets at a nursing home. We take a variety of projects to the fair and do many fun things throughout the year.

Western Ohio- Cincinnati Region. Nationally there are 2.8 million Girl Scouts in the United States. All of this because in 1912 in Savannah, Georgia one lady, Juliette Gordon Low, started a troop, with only 18 girls, based on the Girl Guides from England.

In Brown County, just as nation-wide, the GS Mis-sion statement of “Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.” is taught in many ways. Throughout the year the girls can earn badges in a variety of areas such as Financial Literacy, Skill Building, Cookie Business and Legacy. They may also work on Leadership Journeys which are book-led teachings of discover-ing each girl’s talent and giving her confidence to

work with others to solve conflicts and make needed changes in her community.

Each year, Grant Service Unit offers different oppor-tunities for the Scouts of the county to come togeth-er, make new friends, learn about Girl Scouting as well as to have fun. Every January, there is the Cookie Rally which introduces the girls to the start of the cookie selling season. At the rally the girls learn customer service, market-ing, goal-setting and money guidelines. In the spring, the Service Unit holds it’s annual ‘Girl Scout and her Hero’ dinner and dance. This is an event where the GS is encouraged to bring her Hero, any male role model in her life, for an afternoon of celebration. In the fall the SU holds its annual “Tea Party” where the GS and her female hero

are invited for an afternoon of activities and bonding. Every summer the Grant Adventure Days day camp is held. This two day event offers the girls a variety of learning stations such as science, patriotism, skill-building, and leadership. These activities, as well as participating in parades, assisting the American Legion and complet-ing community service throughout the county teaches the girls numerous life-long values.

The biggest event that our local Girl Scouts par-ticipate in is the Brown County Fair. From troop projects, individual proj-ects, baking competition in the GS Department to all other Jr. Fair competitions, the girls have numerous ways to be a part of the Little State Fair. In the GS Department, the girls are

required to sit down with the judges in a one-on-one interview process to pres-ent their projects. The girls are then judged on their presentation of their indi-vidual project and not the project. We have learned that this is another way to reiterate the GS Mis-sion statement as well as teach the girls the impor-tance of giving speeches, eye contact and building confidence in their abili-ties. Grant Service Unit is the only service unit in the state that has the girls enter their county fair proj-ects in this manner.

For more information about Girl Scouts, see the GSWO webpage at http://www.gswo.org/ or call 1-888.350.5090.

Be sure to stop by our booth at the fair! You will find us in Rhonemus Hall behind the grandstands.
