Responsibilities and Requirements
• Hold current membership in AHS • Know, grow, & show typical CVs from all
classes, areas – visit many gardens• Be familiar with as many CVs as possible • Encourage new judges and new growers • Improve own judging skills • Attend and support clinics • Promote daylilies & encourage youth • Own and be familiar with handbook
Ethics of Judging
• Be on best behavior.
• Judge own show only in emergency.
• Don’t judge in unaccredited shows.
• Accept invitations if possible and respond promptly.
• Follow show schedule and other show official instructions.
• Tell others on panel if you don't know CV.

AHS Judging Standards and Organization
• Must employ the AHS standards • At least 3 exhibition judges per panel (2 • senior)• Judges’ panel is final authority• Classification Chairman may disqualify
entries or correct classification errors –TACT – mark misnamed entries “misnamed”

AHS Major Awards
•Special horticulture award sections and local on-scape sections are not eligible for AHS rosettes
•Must judge both on-scape and off-scape if asked
AHS Major Awards Purple Award and Best-in-Section,
part A
• In a name class, the Purple Award (Rosette) is awarded to the highest scoring entry whose score is 95 pts. or greater
• For determining the Best-in-Section, a post-it bearing the point score (calculated to 1 point) is affixed to the entry tag
• The highest scoring interim score receives the section rosette

• Ties broken by re-judging perhaps using a finer interval
• All post-its are then removed
• If the rosette section has been judged by more than one panel, the whole set of purples is re-judged by a special panel

• Three senior Exhibition Judges• Judge only entries worthy of consideration• Judge individually without discussing• Specific scores neither announced or
discussed by judges or show officials• Never state personal opinion about entry • Seedling scale of points• Scores of at least 2 judges average 90 pts
or more

Master Panel (Slide 1 of 2)
• One or two panels may be used • Panel – 3 Sr Judges or 2 Sr Judges & 1 Jr Judge
• Three named CV scapes, three seedling scapes
• One score sheet for named CV scapes and one for seedlings
• Panel collaborates to get consensus on scores and descriptive comments – no comment boxes blank
• MUST use descriptive words of “merits” and “faults”in Figure 9 of the handbook

• Register as MP on Student Registration Sheet• Senior judges get accreditation extended four
years from the current year• Junior judges get credit toward becoming a senior
judge• Junior judges are urged to serve on a master
panel – important part of training
Recent Changes - 2005
• Ophelia Taylor Award may be given at any accredited show, not just in Region 12 shows or in shows at regional meetings
• The spider form is redefined to include the spider variant form, i.e. 4:1 or larger
• The addition of the Extra Large form caused redefinition of Large cv., i.e. less than 7”
• The Extra Large cv. was added to the classi-fication and show schedule, i.e. 7” or more
Recent Changes - 2008• Registered polymeres are to be shown in
the same section as registered doubles.
• CVs with multiple-form registrations one of whose forms is double or polymerous (e.g. Polymere/Spider) are to be shown in the same section as doubles
• CVs registered as Spider/Unusual Form are to be shown in the same section as spiders
