Three programmes of international moving image and performance, with lead artists Tina Keane, Melanie Manchot and Bedwyr Williams Visions in the Nunnery is back – the Nunnery Gallery’s renowned showcase of moving image and performance. Three programmes will present an international overview of some of the most exciting, recent and boundary-pushing digital art, showing over 60 international artists selected from over 1,000 submissions. Led by revered multi-media artist Tina Keane, whose work and teaching has had a profound influence on the development of digital art, Programme 1 explores the body, feminism, obsession and the search for identity. Alongside Keane’s own Deviant Beauty (1996) and Couch (2003, neon and film), 14 other artists’ work make up the programme, presenting some of the most arresting, clever and quietly provocative works commenting on gender today. Featuring Alexandra Davenport, Rosie Gibbens, Laura Greenway, Bea Haut; Marcus Orlandi, Liene Steinberga Cesar and Emily Whitebread. Frieze East End Night – Tina Keane Screening, Fri 5 Oct, 6-8pm FREE A special one-off screening of Tina Keane’s seminal work Faded Wallpaper (1988, 20 mins), in partnership with England & Co Gallery. Work screened at 7pm. Wind, Rewind: Women Behind the Lens, Wed 24 Oct, 7pm Queen Mary University of London, £6/4 Inspired by Visions lead artist Tina Keane, the Nunnery Gallery and Queen Mary University of London present an evening exploring Keane’s – and women’s – influence on the development of moving image and film art. Beginning with a screening of one of Keane’s works, the evening will be chaired by Dr. Jenny Chamarette; panellists include artist Diann Bauer and author Richard Dyer. Programme 2 premieres a new work from lead artist Melanie Manchot, Out of Bounds (C) (2018), which continues Manchot’s ongoing exploration of the socio-economic and ecological microclimate of a Swiss mountain and its alpine community. The themes of Manchot’s research-driven practice – identity, human relationships, landscape and the environment – echo through the programme, with works that also reflect her photography-led methods of presentation, including light and dark, choreography and drawing. Visions in the Nunnery is back – the Nunnery Gallery’s renowned showcase of moving image and performance.
