Exercise 8

Open a Word 2007 document.

Click on the Office button and select Save

In - My Documents – Jeff – Next Steps – Your Name Create a Folder called Victorian

Change the file name of the new document to Victorian Era.

Click Save.

Then from the Home ribbon, in styles select No Spacing as the style of the document.

Enter the following text:

Women in the Victorian Era

The Victorian Era spanned 64 years and as the century closed, attitudes were gradually changing. However, in this era, it was considered that women were expected to stay at home. Naturally, there were women of independent original thought, but for the huge majority, life was easier if they accepted that a woman’s place was in the home.

It was generally thought that the career for women was marriage. To prepare for courtship and marriage, a girl was groomed like a racehorse. All Victorian women, whether married or single, were expected to be weak and helpless: a fragile delicate flower incapable of making decisions beyond selecting the menu for dinner!

Exercise

1. Carry out a spell check.

2. In the Insert ribbon – select header, enter Victorian Exercise.

3. In the Insert ribbon – select footer, insert your name and a page number

4. Underline and make bold the heading Women in the Victorian Era

5. Centre the heading Women in the Victorian Era

6. Change the font of the heading to Arial size 16

7. Change the font of the main text to Arial size 14 and change to Italic

8. Save the document in your folder

9. Print one copy of the document
