PROFESSOR MICHAEL DRISCOLLVice-Chancellor and President, Taylor’s University
FOREWORD
At Taylor’s University, we believe in providing the best exposure to our students in order to educate them to take their productive place as leaders in the global community. In order to achieve this, we continuously ensure that the facilities and programmes offered here are able to meet the needs of the 21st century learner and provide them the tools they need to be leaders of their own right. Initiatives such as the Taylor’s Graduate Capabilities and the 2nd Transcript or the SHINE Award programme were introduced as part of our pedagogy as platforms that will enable our students to fine-tune their soft skills and enhance their leadership qualities.
In addition to increasing the soft-skill aptitude of our students, we aim to provide our students with outstanding teaching and cutting edge learning facilities. All this is done with one objective: to produce successful graduates who are first choice for leading employers. We also help our students to graduate with the ambition and entrepreneurial skills to establish their own successful businesses.
It is our aspiration that through this initiative, our student will be able to become more impactful in their capabilities and be able to meet the challenges and demands of the working environment on completion of their degree.
Congratulations to the organising committee of the iLEAD Conference for bringing together a distinguished panel of speakers that will definitely provide valuable insight to all the students.
To the esteemed speakers, thank you for your time and for sharing lessons that will add another dimension to our students’ education here at Taylor’s University. I hope all our students will benefit greatly from the insight shared during this event.
Professor Michael Driscoll

A- Aspire to become a leader who wants to make a positive difference B- Believe in yourself by developing your potential and understand what it takes to become the next influential leader C- Commit to your Aspirations and Believe by applying what you have learnt D- Daily disciplines in being faithful to the little things which matters E- Experiment with different life experiences and things to find the true path that suits you
iLEAD was developed with the fundamental aim of equipping all students with the right foundation and knowledge, application techniques and skills to prepare you with all aspects of leadership skills, in hopes of preparing you with the task of becoming effective leaders. By attending the iLEAD Conference, you have earned yourself the leading position as a learner and early riser. Throughout the conference, you will be inspired and develop the confidence to become a successful leader. The iLEAD Conference will teach you how to commit to your aspirations and believes, apply and practice what you have learnt so that it becomes engraved in your daily routine (daily disciplines).
This is why we carefully selected our distinguished speakers based on their experience, personal success stories and proven track record in the area of leadership and especially in inspiring others to elevate themselves. I hope that you will pay great attention to each of their message conveyed so that your foundation in becoming an effective leader is moulded in.
Make use of this opportunity to widen your network of friends by identifying and leveraging on each other’s strengths and helping each other learn every day.
I would also like to take this opportunity to convey my sincere appreciation to my colleague Ms Laveenia Theertha Pathy from Student Development who is the key anchor of the iLEAD Conference and also, the key advisor to the SHINE Ambassador , iLEAD Committee. Our vision is to make iLEAD, a leadership conference like none other that will inspire and impact our students in all ways possible. I am glad to be able to see its fruitful impact today.
The world is in need of more leaders who can make a positive difference by adding more value to the community and nation. Let that start with you.
All the best!
Sincerely,Mr Janaronson Nagarajah
Leadership does not require mechanisms as complex as rocket science. While there are different school of thoughts about leadership and whether leaders are born or made, I for one believe that leaders are made. In one of my favourite leadership book, The Leadership Challenge by James Kouzes and Barry Posner, it is mentioned that “We’ve never met a leader who wasn’t born. We’ve also never met an accountant, artist, athlete, engineer, lawyer, physician, writer or zoologist who wasn’t born. We’re all born. That’s a given. It’s what you do with what you have before you die that makes the difference.”
I believe with my whole heart that this is true and is something that can be acquired by any individual who has the heart to learn. In my simple way, it can be as easy as ABCDE. All you have to do is:-

SHINE Ambassadors were selected and assigned with tasks that mainly assist staffs for events under SHINE Award Programme. In May, some of the Ambassadors came together to form the Organizing Committee for the 5th iLEAD Conference.
We aim to strive as a student leadership conference that will deliver the best qualities of leadership. It shall exist as a spring of inspiration for all participants. But we must not forget what Thomas Edison have once said, “Genius is one percent inspiration, ninety-nine percent perspiration.” We have all been inspired by someone or an incident, which led us to step up for a position in the Organizing Committee. By hosting the 5th iLEAD Conference, we hope to inspire and motivate all of you.
The conference theme this year is about millennials, hosted by millennials for participation for everyone. Who are millennials? It is the demographic cohort, also known as Generation Y, for people born between early 1980s to late 1990s. We have been misunderstood to be self-entitled, narcissistic and older managers find it difficult to deal with us. Ever wonder why some leaders can engage with millennials? Want to hear more about how millennials could slip into
the society and redefine a workplace? If you’re eager to be inspired, I’m sure the 5th iLEAD Conference will be the place for you.
It is our honour to host the speakers at the 5th iLEAD Conference and we’re glad to also receive the support we did from our sponsors. The conference would not be successful without them. I would also like to thank the organising committee for all their hard work in the last couple of months that led to the success of the iLEAD Conference. I’m glad to witness how much the committee members have grown personally and professionally. We owe it to our advisor, Ms Laveenia, for giving us the opportunity and providing guidance to us, which allowed us to stay positive and march forward to the success of the conference.
The 5th iLEAD Conference is the product of our blood, sweat and tears, so we wholeheartedly hope you enjoy the conference and go home inspired.
Sincerely,Yvonne Chin Nyuk BoonConference Director

The iLEAD Conference themed, “Initiating Future Leaders” was developed for the SHINE Award Programme as a core component of the Empowerment Series under Learning Package 2: People and Leadership. The conference is a platform aimed to provide SHINE Participants as well as every Taylor’s University student with the opportunity to understand every individual can develop the attitude, skills and competencies relevant to become a good leader.
Taylor’s University through various initiatives, intends to expose students to a multitude of curriculum outside of the classroom by helping them develop skills relevant to the working world, in order for them to take their productive place as leaders in the global community. The one-day conference was developed to expose students to renowned leaders who are willing to share inspirational stories ranging from Personal Leadership, Leading Others and Inspiring Action.
The three key topics above will inspire students to think outside the box, encourage them to ignite an idea and explore innovative ways to initiate the idea in pursuit of a significant impact. The five ‘i’s’ are crucial words towards the making of an effective leader. The iLEAD Conference is organised by Taylor’s University’s Student Development, INTELLECT. The key objectives of the iLEAD Conference are:
1. Distinguish Personal Leadership from Leading Others2. Understand qualities of an Effective Leader and how they culturally adapt to different environments3. Find inspiration through various real life success story examples from exemplary industry leaders 4. Encourage a mind of critical thinking, problem solving, creativity and innovation.
For the 5th iLEAD Conference, the committee decided to focus on the theme, particularly “Millennials and Leadership in the 21st Century” to understand what it takes for these young leaders to be noticed and develop the skills needed to contribute back to the workforce and the community.
