Message from the Vice Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a busy week it has been at Richmond Hill Academy this week! On Monday, our Year 1 teachers launched their new topic on China, with a "flight" to China! The plane was flown skilfully by Captain Rollin and the children got to experience walking through Beijing before returning safely home. RH sent out its first Cross Country team and we were so proud of how the children completed and conducted themselves during the day (see more, further on in the newsletter). Year 2 took part in a Road Safety workshop and were very sensible on our streets. Finally, the whole of Upper Phase performed poetry as part of our Remembrance Day celebrations. Thank you so much to all the parents who came and listened and to the teachers who worked so hard with the children to produce fantastic performances.

A Centenary of Remembrance

This year Richmond Hill Academy commemorated the centenary of the end of "The war to end all wars" by having each pupil create a poppy that was then added to our Remembrance Day Display.

100 years ago the First World War ended, and a new world began. The example and experience of those who lived through it shaped the world we live in today. On Sunday 11th November 2018, the United Kingdom and Commonwealth will mark the centenary of the day when the guns fell silent. This will also be a time of reflection to honour all those that have lost their lives through armed conflict.

Active School Cross Country Event Middleton Park, Wednesday 7th November 2018

This week a squad of our finest long distance runners represented

RHA at an Active Schools Cross Country Event in Middleton Park.

Looking super smart in our Adidas kit we braved the wind and rain to

race against children from twenty other schools.

Year 4 ran a distance of 900m, whilst Y5 and 6 pupils ran a total dis-

tance of 1,500m! Quite an achievement. Mr Williamson led the

cheering from our team’s base at the finish line and it was wonderful

to have some parents attend the event, supporting their children.

A special mention must go to Harleigh Lewis (4D) who finished in

6th place overall, to Leo Alghafari (4D) Who finished in 10th place and

to Leo Lewis-Sykes (5D) who finished in 11th place out of over

50 runners! Incredible running!

The results will be emailed in the coming days so I will be sure to write

a follow-up report on our successes. A massive thank you to

Mrs Newell and Ms Woodhouse for helping us at the event.
