Introduction to Data ScienceCompanies are gathering masses of data on a daily basis but struggle to get the most value out of it. Are you ready to make the digital transition by intelligent use of Data Science and gain a competitive advantage by bridging the gaps between engineering, business and Data Science?

Develop yourself by determining your own growth path and become a Certified Data Science professional in your field of work. In 20 fridays you will learn how to execute a Data Science Project. After the program you will recieve an Official JADS Certificate, signed by Tilburg University and TU/e.

Executing a Data Science Project The Execute Track teaches you to execute a Data Science Project within your field of work using your own Data. Fields you can specialise in at JADS are: Health, Public Services, Professional Services, Energy, Industry and Supply Chain Management. You will experience how to apply technical knowledge to your own relevant business issues and work on a group Data Science Project.

After completing this Track, you will receive a certificate and have the

possibility to join the JADS Community or move on to the Leading in Data Science Track. The Introduction Module is included in this Track.

You will participate in interactive lectures by experienced teachers and professionals, followed by practical sessions in which you work hands-on with fellow participants. This leads to a broad view of the challenges and solutions that are required to realize impact and effect for numerous social challenges.

The ProgramYou will learn to combine understanding of the dynamics of systems with understanding of business value and modern possibilities created by data analytics and IT. You will discover an ocean of new opportunities to produce new kinds of products and with new kinds of systems that are more reliable, flexible and efficient.

The Track gives a solid foundation in machine learning and data analytic thinking using modern data infrastructures. Applications focus on the immediate horizon using Data Science to improve.

Module 1: Introduction to Data Science

In 2 days we get you acquainted with JADS, you get to know your fellow participants and we give you an introduction to Data Science. In the following 5 days you go through a Data Science Machine Learning project that is set up and executed according to the CRISP–DM model.

This project contains all phases from business understanding, data understanding, data preparation and modeling to evaluation of the CRISP-DM model. Day 4 to 7 will focus on going through these different phases. You will also get acquainted with the skill set a Data Science

professional needs to develop in order to successfully implement a project. After completing the Introduction Module, you will discuss your learning goals and growth path with your Community Director to find out which skills and knowledge you need to successfully run a Data Science Project.

Module 2: General modules Data Analytics & Data Engineering

During these modules, you go deeper into the theory and practical application of the field you chose to specialise in e.g. Health, Industry, Supply Chain Management, Energy or Professional Services.

Topics covered will be Programming and Python, Descion making, Data Engineering I -Structured and Semi-Structured Databases, Visualisation and Machine Learning. Theoretical knowledge, hands-on sessions and bad and best practices are combined.

Module 3: Sector Specific Data Science Module

During the Industry specific modules, you dive deeper into the data-driven topics and issues that play a role within the Professional Services, Energy, Health, Public Sector, Industry and Supply Chain Management sector. Themes that are recognisable for everyone are discussed from a both theoretical as a practical point of view. Topics being covered will be for example: Smart Maintenance, New Business Concepts & Servitisation, Reconstructing Customer Journeys & Quantitative Data Analysis and Serious Gaming.

Group Project

Parallel to Module 2 and 3 you will work on a group Data Science project. You will apply all the knowledge you have learned in the previous modules.

Professional skills

Professional skills are key when carrying out a successful Data Science project. We pay a lot of attention to these skills by online teaching materials, coaching, pitching and peer review. Professional skills are integrated in both technical and substantive modules.

Do you fit the profile?You must be able to show a high level of motivation in formulating and solving complex problems in a data driven environment. You should also be eager to learn combining generalist with expert thinking. You should have a clear affinity with Data Science. An entrepreneurial mind-set is second nature to you. In fact, if you can tick most of the following, this program could be for you.

• Technical expertise: You have experience in a relevant (technical) discipline at a bachelor or master level. Preferably, you have several years of relevant work experience

• Curiosity: You have an unstoppable desire to discover, distil and model a problem to a clear set of concepts and hypotheses that can be tested

Dr. Egge van

der Poel

Egge van der Poel is an expert on Big Data in healthcare. He has a PhD in experimental particle physics, and a bachelor degree in philosophy. He searched and found the Higgs particle in the CERN particle accelerator in Geneva. He has been working as a Data Scientist for several years and is a much sought after speaker on the Big Data theme.

Van den Heuvel

Willem-Jan van den Heuvel is a full professor in Information Systems and managing director of the European Research Institute of Services Science (ERISS). His research interests are at the cross-junction of software service systems and business process management with an emphasis on (global) networked enterprises. In particular, his expertise revolves around the following major research themes: business process management, Big data analytics’, service engineering and legacy system modernisation.

Prof. dr. Maurits

Kaptein

Maurits Kaptein is Professor Data Science & Health at Tilburg University, and Principal researcher at Jheronimus Academy of Data Science. He describes himself as a Social Scientist, Statistician and entrepreneur. He has successfully founded and sold multiple companies, and attracted over 3.5 Million in funding. Furthermore is he active as developer and author, with several popular software packages and more than 60 scientific publications to his name. Recently he became Co-founder and CEO of Scailable, which has been operating since September 2019.

Prof. dr. Eric

Postma

Eric Postma is a professor in Artificial Intelligence at the Cognitive Science & AI department at Tilburg University and at the Jheronimus Academy of Data Science in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. He received his M.Sc. in 1989 at the University of Nijmegen; his thesis about a connectionist model of implicit and explicit memory was largely based on an internship at Leiden University. His Ph.D. in 1994 at Maastricht University concerned a biologically inspired model of covert attention and it served as an inspiration for his current research, which focusses on the use of data science (machine learning) in image recognition and cognitive modelling.
