Paris in the 20s and 30s was one of the most romantic, passionate anddecadent cities on earth. This is reflected in the music of those heady days.

These 25 tracks engulf you in the extraordinary richness of the traditionalFrench songs created between the 1920s and the 1950s.

Sit down, relax and prepare yourself to rediscover the passion, drama andunique voice of Edith Piaf: the sophisticated, gently witty songs of JeanSablon: and a delightful collection of poetic, nostalgic and melodic tunes.

The Christmas Song was written by Bob Wells and up-and-coming vocalist Mel Torme during a heatwave in July1945. They rushed it round to Carlos Gastel, Nat King Cole's manager, and the upshot was that the Nat KingCole Trio recorded it with a string backing the following year. It was worth the wait. With Nat's impeccable darkand intimate vocal the disc reached No.3 in the Hit Parade. It has remained a yuletide evergreen ever since.
