Exchange 2003 Labs

You will learn how to:

• Create Routing Groups,

• Install another Exchange server in separate Routing Group

• Configure mail flow between routing groups

• Install Client Computers, and configure Outlook profiles

• Configure Outlook Cache mode/online mode

• Move mailboxes between Exchange servers

Exchange 2003 Client Labs

Ex1 Create two XP clients and install Outlook 2003/2007/2010 on them

1. Create two VMs and install Windows XP on them

2. Install MS Outlook 2003/2007/2010 on them

Ex2A 1. Create a new Routing Group in ESM, and name as per your sites in AD (e.g. if you have

Mississauga and Markham as sites, name your second Routing Group as one of the Site

name)

2. Create new VM in that site, and follow the Exchange 2003 installation steps to install

Additional Exchange server in existing Exchange Organization.

3. Make sure, new Exchange 2003 is in new Routing Group

4. Create two databases on this server, users and managers

5. Place limits on the databases as per previous limits of your company for users and managers.

6. Create 5 new user mailboxes on this new Exchange server

7. Create 5 new manager mailboxes on this new server

8. While creating users’ mailboxes, pay attention to the wizard, you must choose which

Exchange server, and which storage group/database the mailbox should be created on.

Ex2B Mailflow between the routing groups is not going to happen because no connectors exists between

routing groups

1. Create a Routing Group Connector (RGC) between the Routing Groups

2. Go to ESM, Routing Groups, Connectors, New RGC and connect both Routing Groups

3. Check the mail flow now in Queues and do you see Queue for RGC?

Ex3 1. Configure Outlook to access one of the mailboxes

2. On the XP client 1, logon as user whose mailbox is on the local Exchange server in that site

3. Go to Control panel, and mail icon, and configure mail profile for this user to be used for the

first time

4. For detailed instructions, please check your email configuring profile

5. Repeat steps to configure XP Client 2 for user mailbox in the other location

6. Send emails to each other, and make sure you can send and receive emails on clients

between each other

Ex4 1. While Outlook is up and running for user1

2. Go to respective Exchange server, ADUC, right click on that user Exchange tasks

3. Now move this mailbox to another Exchange server

4. Notice what happens to Outlook during the move

5. What happens after the move is complete?

Ex5 1. Configure Outlook in cache mode (Do some research how to configure Outlook in cache

mode)

2. Locate the OST file on the disk

3. Configure Outlook in online mode

4. What’s the difference between the two?
