Data Management Consulting Many companies are falling short of fully realizing the benefits of their data. Companies with mature data & analytics skills have quick access to reliable data. A 2015 Forbes Insight survey found that almost half of "the best" (the top 10% of respondents from 564 executives of large global enterprises) said they already have enterprisewide data architecture and easily accessible high-quality data. This is in stark contrast with "the rest" (the remainder of the respondents) – approximately 10% of which indicated the same level of data management maturity.1

Firms in this group emphasize their internally developed assets and solutions that accelerate and enrich the data management consulting process through a comprehensive framework, methodology, tool, or lab. These firms often have their own solutions and services that they recommend to clients as part of “next steps,” including as-a-service data offerings, governance & compliance solutions, and industry-specific data integration solutions. EY. From within its data & analytics practice, EY provides information management services, where the firm’s goal is to solve a client business problem through the use of data and technology. EY’s underlying approach to data management consulting focuses on establishing data governance measures and defining a supportive operating model. The firm has built out an extensive portfolio of tools and accelerators, most of which are used during analytics engagements, although a select few are highly applicable to data management consulting initiatives. One example of this is EY’s EY3D accelerator, which analyzes multiple years of transaction and master file data to uncover patterns, errors, and methods to improve data control and processes. This accelerator, along with EY’s portfolio of data security and compliance offerings, which include security transformation and cyber threat management, place EY as a top competitor in data security & compliance advisory. Another example is the EY Data & Analytics Interactive Tool, a self-assessment tool that measures a client’s data & analytics initiatives against the survey responses of hundreds of global executives. This tool was developed as a result of a benchmark study conducted by EY and Forbes Insights.
