Family Newsletter No. 19 ● January 14 – January 18, 2019

The Home & School Connection PUENTE’s instructors and parents each play a vital role in supporting students’ educational progression and in providing an optimal learning environment.

At PUENTE, our responsibility is to: create a collaborative learning community, using best practices, to maximize the potential of each student. We will encourage good citizenship habits.

As a parent, you can help support our efforts in a number of ways. Any assistance you can provide is appreciated. Suggestions include:

• Setting aside a time and place for homework.

• Asking your child daily what he/she learned at school.

• Ensuring your child’s punctual arrival and pick-up.

• Spending at least 20 minutes each day reading with your child.

• Providing encourage-ment and supporting PUENTE policy.

• Notifying PUENTE when your child will be out sick.

• Making sure your child is in class as much as possible to ensure that he/she receives the best education possible.

campfire songs and other surprises. We encourage all parents and children to join their teachers and dress in your pajamas! Please don’t miss out on this special night! Don’t forget to bring a pillow, a blanket to sit on and “goodnight-books” to read together!

Dear Parent(s): During the weeks of January 14 to 25, the children will take the test called NWEA Map. We give our students MAP tests to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of Reading, Language and Mathematics. Your child will take the tests on a computer. MAP tests are linked to the Common Core curriculum through the standards and benchmarks for each subject area and grade level. MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. Teachers will use the results to design instruction tailored to your child’s abilities and needs. Following the testing period, there will be a Parent/Teacher Conference to review your child’s results. We want your child to do their best. Please help us achieve this! Thank you!

Durante las semanas del 14 al 25 de enero, nuestros estudiantes tomarán el examen llamado NWEA Map. Le damos a los niños la prueba MAP para determinar el nivel de instrucción de su hijo/a y para medir el crecimiento académico a lo largo del año escolar y de año en año en las

áreas de lectura, lenguaje y matemáticas. Su hijo/a tomará las pruebas en una computadora.

Las pruebas MAP están vinculadas al currículo “Common Core” a través de los estándares para cada área de materia y nivel de grado. Las pruebas MAP adaptan para ser apropiadas para el nivel de aprendizaje de su hijo/a. Cada estudiante tiene la misma oportunidad de tener éxito y mantener una actitud positiva hacia los exámenes.

Los maestros usarán los resultados para diseñar instrucción adaptada a las habilidades y necesidades de los estudiantes. Después del período de prueba, habrá una conferencia de padres / maestros para revisar los resultado. Necesitamos su ayuda!

Helping Your Child Become A Better Citizen

Como ayudar a su hijo a ser un ciudadano responsable

We are always teaching our children something by our words and our actions. They learn from seeing. They learn from hearing and from overhearing. They learn from us, from each other, from other adults in the community, and by themselves.

In our daily lives, we can show our children that we respect others.

We can show them our compassion and concern when others are suffering, and our own self-discipline, courage, and honesty as we make difficult decisions. How we conduct our everyday activities can show our children that we always try to do our best to serve our families, communities, and country. We must try to be the best role models we can possibly be.

Siempre estamos enseñando algo a nuestros niños mediante nuestras palabras y nuestras acciones. Ellos aprenden lo que ven. Ellos aprenden lo que escuchan. Aprenden de nosotros, entre sí, y de otros adultos en la comunidad, así como por sí mismos.
