Numbers dictate the way we organise our classes, and we are ancipang having a combinaon of both straight year groups and composite classes next year. As a rule, children are placed with a new teacher each year. During 2020 children may work with different teachers (parcularly during mathemacs) as we invesgate ways to prepare children for moving into flexible learning environments when our new buildings are completed. We believe construcon on the new build will begin in the middle part of next year and take approximately 18 months. The Ministry of Educaon are currently working with a building contractor to determine the phased approach. When I have more informaon there will be a parentsmeeng organised to discuss the plans moving forward. Staff changes It is with sadness, but also pride, that we say farewell to Andrew Malele at the end of this year. Andrew will be taking up the posion of Deputy Principal at Holy Trinity Catholic Primary School in 2020. Daniel Wickman will also be leaving us for a promoon – Team Leader at Drury Primary School, and Calida Bruce will be heading overseas to travel with her husband. Also, congratulaons to Crissy Briain (Teacher Aide) who has been accepted at university to study midwifery. They will be missed, but we wish them all the best in their future endeavours. Thank you Michelle Dibben Principal Junior School The middle of Term Four offers our students and teachers an opportunity to reflect on the tremendous growth that we have collectively made within the year. We are preparing for our End of Year Prizegiving Assembly. This opportunity provides our students exposure to song, dance and cultural diversity, alongside collaborating with peers. We look forward to sharing our student’s talents and efforts with you on Friday 6 December. Please be aware that there are two prizegiving assemblies held on the same date. Our Year 2 students awards will be presented at the 9:30am show, and our New Entrants and Year 1 students will be acknowledged at the 11:30am show. Please bring a cushion for more comfortable seating! Thank you for your support in purchasing your children's artwork earlier this term. Each student is extremely proud of their creative efforts. We know you will be pleased with the beautiful artworks you have purchased. In classes we are currently ending our inquiry into making positive changes in our lives, with a strong sustainable, environmental focus. Ten weeks ago several classes buried organic waste (orange peels, apple cores, banana peels, paper and compostable packaging) along with inorganics (chip packets, jelly cups, Le Snack packaging, plastic bottles, glad wrap). This week we dug up our buried waste to reveal to the children that there was no remaining evidence of any of the organic material. This was encouraging and surprising for our students! However, sadly of all the plastics buried, all remained in pristine condition with no evidence of degrading. This reinforced the importance of being mindful about our consumption and how our plastic packaging doesn't go away. The aim of this inquiry was to bring about a greater awareness in our efforts to become more sustainable as a global community. We hope that our new learning will continue to be strengthened with your help at home. Well done to our tamariki who have competed in numerous events over the term. Also well done to all our students for remembering their hats every day! Our learning this term has been focussed on DISCOVERIES, EXPLORATIONS AND MIGRATIONS OF HUMANKIND. Last Friday we had our Food Festival celebrating cultures from around the world. This event was another way that we have tried to develop an appreciation for the diversity in people and it showed how food can bring us all together. On Tuesday 26th November we will be opening our classrooms from 5.30 PM to showcase our learning for the year and celebrate the journey our learners have been on. Please refer to our Term 4 timeline for any relevant dates and events. Please ensure we have a copy of your childs vaccination records. This is important given the current Measles outbreak in Manurewa. School Vegetable Gardens We are fortunate to have 6 garden boxes and a propagation tunnel donated by OKE Charitable trust. We also have 2 worm farms and compost bins. We are working towards developing a programme which introduces our students to sustainable lifestyles. We would love any help and support from our school community who would like to share their skills and knowledge to help us develop this programme for our students. If you would like to share your passion, please contact Deborah McGrath R7 [email protected] We look forward to hearing from you.
