Excalibur is the latest entry in a long his-tory of krewes that have taken their names from Arthurian legend. Named after one of two legendary swords of King Arthur—one bestowed upon him by the Lady of the Lake (Nimue or Vivien), the other pulled by him from the stone—the male and female krewe was founded in 2000 in Jefferson Parish. EXCALIBURKNIGHTS LOVE REVELRY is the theme of the 19th annual Excalibur proces-

sion in Metairie, which last year christened the new parade route, starting on Bonnabel Boulevard and ending at the Clearview Shopping Center where Family Gras is now annually staged. The 20-fl oat parade depicts subjects such as Hot Air Bal-loons, Casino Night, and Circus. Excalibur’s 2020 royalty are Roland Lee Creson and Cynthia Meyer Creson. Notable fl oats include the Lady of the Lake captain’s fl oat and a special fl oat for Morgana. Excalibur will feature a band contest. The signature collars and costumes are highlights of the parade. The club’s 225 men and women will hand out individually decorated wooden shields and special Valentine’s Day throws. Several lighted items will also be featured along with doubloons in several colors, including special cutout editions. Excalibur’s bal masque is set for the Pontchartrain Center on February 1, 2020.

The Krewe of Alla was formed November 19, 1932, and was originally sponsored by the West Side Carnival and Social Club, Inc. The group was reorganized July 26, 1977, as the Golden Gryphon Society, Inc. In 2014, the krewe moved its parade from the West Bank to the Uptown New Orleans route on St. Charles Avenue and began accepting women as members.www.kreweofalla.net

The 88th parade of the Krewe of Alla will be a historic occasion with its inaugural ride on their new Friday night home. The Krewe of Alla also announced a new

partnership with the Legion of Mars to present a special salute to America’s military and fi rst responders. The 22 fl oats built by Kern Studios feature the theme FRIDAY NIGHT FLICKS & FUN! The 500 male and female members will ride with fl oat sub-jects such as The Avengers, Hungry Hungry Hippos, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Alla’s royalty are Dr. Marc Matrana and Heather Green Matrana. Parade goers will catch Alla-logo merchandise including hand decorated genie lamps and doubloons in several colors and cut-out shapes. The parade will be led by the U.S. Marine Corps Band, and eighteen other bands will perform, including from Brother Martin, Landry Walker, and Warren Easton. The AllaBash ball is set for February 8, 2020, at The Cannery.
