BEA AquaLogic BPM SuiteUnleashing the Value in the Way We Work

Business processes define the way we work. Our everyday decisions whether to

approve the invoice, take the call from the customer, create a requisition, etc. are

guided by the implicit and explicit rules and expectations governing our role. When

these business processes are poorly defined, or the systems uncoordinated with the

business objectives, bureaucracy, inefficient employees, lost data, and unhappy

customers are sure to follow. Using AquaLogic Business Process Management Suite,

many customers have unleashed the value in the way we work: improvingproductivity, providing visibility and accountability, and providing the organization with

the power to respond to market needs like never before.

    Overview

AquaLogic BPM Suite is a complete product

suite for creating, executing and optimizing

    business processes. The suite enables

    unparalleled collaboration between business

and IT to automate and optimize businessprocesses, improving efficiency and agility

while lowering costs. BEA AquaLogic BPM

Suite (BPMS) leverages all of your existing IT

investments, and it is especially tuned for

    Service-Oriented Architectures.

    The BPM Challenge

    Organizations aredriven by business processes:

whether executing a sales order, escalating a

hiring decision, deciding which records to keep, or

determining how to price a product, you are acting

within an implicit or explicit business process.

Parts of these processes take place inside IT

systems for example, a logistics application might

coordinate the transportation of goods from

Singapore to Los Angeles. But many other parts

are handled by humans, such as payment of the

customs duties on that shipment. Informal

processes are often expensive processes: as

employees change jobs, they take their knowledge

and experience with them. Defining and formalizing

that work defining the sequence of steps, how

exceptions and escalations are handled, and

coordinating the systems needed to accomplish a

specific task has provided many organizations

    with great improvements in productivity,

compliance and quality of service. But efforts to

formalize and automate business processes can

be challenging, as processes often span divisional

domains and involve many different IT systems.

    Dashboard

BEA AquaLogic BPM Suite enables unparalleled

collaboration between business and IT. Business

analysts can design and run simulations of a complete

process prior to, or even while, IT developers

implements the necessary connectivity to existing IT

systems. User interfaces for human interaction with the

process are generated automatically and provided as

    standards-based portlets. And role-based dashboards

provide real-time and historical process data.

BEA AquaLogic Studio is both a design environment

built for the business analyst and an Integrated

Development Environment optimized for the developer.

It enables the creation of any type of process by

dragging and dropping process elements onto swim-

lanes through BPMN and UML modeling standards.

Business analysts can design and simulate a process

without writing any code or having to work with IT,

including browsing the organizational structure in

external enterprise directories and assigning roles.

Because both teams are working on the same process

model, iterative collaboration between business and IT

without translating between execution and modeling

languages. Studio empowers the developer to write

business logic, connect to existing applications and

assemble user interfaces for human interaction. Studio

    supports multiple programming languages standards

such as Java, .NET, EJB, JNDI, WSDL, XML, CORBA,

    COM, SQL and more.

BEA AquaLogic BPM Enterprise Server orchestrates

each step to ensure flawless execution, escalation and

exception management. Built Enterprise-class with BEAs

proven performance and scale, the same engine executes

process written in either BPEL or XPDL the industry

standards for business process definition and execution.

BEA AquaLogic Workspace for BPM provides a high

performance workspace for business process participants.

Process activities that require human interaction are

automatically surfaced into a web interface without any

need for manual web page design or coding. Participants

can access and manipulate tasks according to their

assigned roles and responsibilities. Customizable JSFportlets are available for AquaLogic User Interaction and

WebLogic Portal, or standard JSR 168 portlets can be

    consumed by virtually any portal.

BEA AquaLogic BPM Process Manager provides real-

time information about all processes running in BEA

AquaLogic BPM Enterprise Server, allowing manipulation of

processes such as suspension and termination.

BEA AquaLogic BPM Dashboards Real-time and

historical process data are made available via role-based

dashboards, enabling managers to actionable intelligencethey need to make critical, timely decisions, as well as

providing business analysts with the data they need to

    continuously optimize the business.
