Find the length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle with a 15 inch leg and a 20 inch leg.
a 2 + b 2 = c 2
152 + 202 = c 2
225 + 400 = c 2
625 = c 2
625 = c25 = c
ANSWER
The length of the hypotenuse is 25 inches.
Pythagorean Theorem
Substitute 15 for a and 20 for b.
Evaluate powers.
Add.
Take positive square root of each side.
Evaluate square root.
