  • Slavery was what some people thought was evil. Non-slaves would get arrested or killed if they helped out or tried to free slaves. If slaves tried to run away they would be hunted down and they would be either returned back to their owners or they would get killed.

  • What is a slave auction? Well a slave auction is pretty much what it sounds like. It is and auction where a slave gets bought or where slaves get traded. Slave auctions were the main reason of splitting up a slave family. Many slaves would try to run away with their families so they wouldnt be split apart.

  • Slave auctions is a big part in the story A Day of Tears. There is two different kinds of slave auctions. One is called grab and go is where a slave buyer would give the slave trader a certain amount of money and he would get a ticket in return for the slave. The other kind of slave auctions is called may the biggest bidder win which is where a slave buyer bids the highest amount of money possible and whoever manages to bid the highest gets the slave.

  • Pierce Butler owned slaves on his plantation. There was a slave auction at the butler plantation where tons of slaves were sold to all over the world. They were sold to get money to pay off his dept from gabling too much and losing.

It got its name because it depended on secret railroad codes to let passengers know they were in danger. The underground railroad was a set of routes that started in the South, went through the North, and ended in Canada.

He has two children He hosted a radio show on WBAI-FM in 1969-1975 Julius Lester has written 43 books: 8 nonfiction, 30 children's books, 1 book of poetry and photographs, and 3 adult novels. His very first book was an instruction book on learning to play a 12 string guitar. Julius Lester was a photographer for the SNCC (Student Non- Violent Coordinating Committee.
