In March 2009 Architecture and Vision inaugurated the exhibition “From Pyramids to Space-craft”, showing selected work of the architecture and design office. Inspired by the beauty of nature and brought to life by science and technology, these works exemplify the creative, elegant solutions for which the founders, Italian architect Arturo Vittori and Swiss architect Andreas Vogler, have been internationally recognized. The exhibition has been since shown at

• the Italian Cultural Institute in Chicago, USA• Swissnex in San Francisco, USA• the Design Olympiad in Seoul, Korea• the Goldstein Design Museum in Minneapolis, USA

In December 2009 Architecture and Vision was contacted by the Embassy of Switzerland in Tokyo about the opportunity to show the exhibition at the Italian Cultural Institute in Tokyo end of June 2010.

The Embassy of Switzerland and the Italian Cultural Institute in Tokyo have been organizing and supporting the exhibition together with the Swiss State Secretariat for Education and Research SER, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology ETH, the Swiss arts council ProHelvetia and the Japanese Space Agency JAXA.

The opening was widely announced and published. About 300 invitation have been send out.The opening was attended by more than 140 people, showing high interest in the work. Many took the opportunity for a personal discussion with Arturo Vittori and Andreas Vogler.

The exhibition “From Pyramids to Spacecraft” is a selection of projects shown in panels and models. Large prints show two recently realized projects MercuryHouseOne, which was dis-played at the 53rd Biennale of Venice in 2009 and the FioredelCielo project inaugurated in Viterbo on September 3, 2009. The exhibition was open from June 21 until July 3rd and was open to the public with free entrance.

自然と科学発展の双方よりインスピレーションを受けて、アーキテクチャー・アンド・ヴィジョンは技術と有効資源を広く使い、人類、技術及び自然を調和・統合することによって、クオリティ・オブ・ライフの向上への寄与を目標に掲げます。関係する各分野での経験を通じて、宇宙開発への類い稀なる関心と情熱を持った彼らは、宇宙空間―あらゆる専門分野を縦断できる総合性と革新が最大限に求められる分野―のためのプロジェクトを展開しはじめました。宇宙へ向けてデザインすることは、最小の消費で最大の効果を上げるような有効資源の使用および、持続可能な自足自給を保証するようなゴミ処理を実現する、調査と解決提案を必要とし、類似したアプローチ及び方法論は地球上での生活改善にもつながります。発表されたプロジェクトは、月面上での実験活動のための膨らむ宇宙基地：ムーン・ベース２、アシアナ航空のファーストおよびビジネスクラスシート、イタリア・ヴィテルボの聖ローザ祭の山車、そしてヴェネチア・ビエンナーレ２００９にて発表されたマーキュリー・ハウス１を含み、プロダクトデザインから建築まで、多岐にわたります。

アンドレアス・フォーグラー（スイス・バーゼル生まれ、1964ー）スイス人建築家。アーキテクチャー・アンド・ヴィジョン（AV）の共同設立者。スイス連邦工科大学チューリッヒ校を卒業後、プレファブ建築の研究に従事。宇宙空間における建築及び運搬技術に関する論文を多数発表している。

アルトゥーロ・ヴィットーリ（ヴィテルボ生まれ、1971ー）イタリア人建築家。アーキテクチャー・アンド・ヴィジョン（AV）の共同設立者。フィレンツェ大学を卒業後、サンティアゴ・カラトラバ、ジャン・ヌーベル、フランシス・デザインらと多くの建築プロジェクトにおいて恊働し、フューチャー・システム、アニッシュ・カプールと地下鉄ナポリ駅計画において恊働した。フランス・トゥールーズやロンドンにて航空機、ヨットおよび船舶のデザインに従事、初期エアバスA380の内装も担当している。

By drawing inspiration from nature and scientific progre rchitec-ture and Vision aims to improve the quality of life through enlighteneduse of techniques and resources to create a harmonious integration of humans, technology and nature has developed a particularinterest and passion for he exploration of space, and is engaged in developing projects for aerospace – a ield requiring high levels of multidisciplinary innovation. To design for space requires researching and developing solutions that assure the optimal use of available resources, with minimal consumption, activating processes of valorization and waste treatment in order to guarantee sustained self-sufficien imilar approach and methodolog an lead to the improvement of life on arth. Projects presented include MoonBa-seTwo, an inflatable space station for conducting experiments on the Moon, First and Business Class for iana irlines, La Macchina di Santa Rosa di Viterbo and the MercuryHouseOne, which was presented at the Biennale in Venice in 2009, as well as many other inspiring projects ranging from product design to architecture.

«From Pyramids to Spacecraft» is a travelling exhibition displaying selected projects by the design studioArchitecture and Vision, founded by Italian architect Arturo Vittori and Swiss architect Andreas Vogler. Vittori andVogler have been working together since 2003 and received a number of important international recognitions. In2006, their prototype for a tent, DesertSeal (2004), became part of the permanent collection of the Museum ofModern Art in New York. Vittori and Vogler were named Modern-day Leonardos in the same year by the Museumof Science and Industry in Chicago for the exposition «Leonardo da Vinci: Man, Inventor, Genius». They share akeen interest in technology and the endless beauty of the world. They have both been working in the aerospacefield and this challenges the way they think about life on Earth. They share the belief that respect of nature andthe intelligent use and development of its resources can have a deep impact on the quality of our lives.

Projects shown in the exhibition include MoonBaseTwo, an inflatable space station for conducting experiments onthe Moon, First and Business Class for Asiana Airlines, La Macchina di Santa Rosa di Viterbo and theMercuryHouseOne, which was presented at the Biennale in Venice in 2009 as well as many other inspiringprojects ranging from product design to architecture.

Arturo Vittori and Andreas Vogler will be present and give a talk at the opening. The exhibition is made possiblethrough a collaboration of the Embassy of Switzerland and the Italian Cultural Institute in Tokyo.

｢ピラミッドから宇宙船まで｣は、イタリア人建築家アルトゥーロ・ヴィットーリとスイス人

建築家アンドレアス・フォグラーにより創設されたデザインスタジオ「アーキテクチャーア

ンドヴィジョン」による様々なプロジェクトを展示する巡回展です。ヴィットーリとフォグ

ラーは 2003年より共同作業を行い、世界の重要な賞を受賞しました。2006年には砂漠のテントの試作品、デザートシール(DesertSeal、2004年)がニューヨークの近代美術館MoMAの永久所蔵品に選ばれました。ヴィットーリとフォグラーは｢レオナルド・ダ・ヴィンチ：

人・発明家・天才｣展がシカゴの科学工業博物館で開催された年に同博物館から現代のレオ

ナルド・ダ・ヴィンチと称されました。

彼らに共通するものは技術と世界の美しさに対するたゆまぬ興味です。二人とも航空宇宙工

学の分野でも仕事をしており、その事が彼らに地球上の生命に関しての問いを投げかけてい

ます。自然を尊重し、知性を駆使しての資源開発は私たちの生活の質に大きな影響を持つと

考えています。

本展覧会で展示するプロジェクトにはムーンベース２（MoonBaseTwo）を含む月での研究作業をおこなう膨らませた宇宙ステーション、アシアナ航空のファースト・ビジネスクラス

のデザイン、ヴィッテルボのラ・マッキーナ・ディ・サンタ・ローザ及び 2009年のベネチア・ビエンナーレで公開されたマーキュリー・ハウス・ワン（MercuryHouseOne）など数多くの示唆に富んだプロダクトデザインから建築までの作品が含まれています。

オープニングにはアルトゥーロ・ヴィットーリとアンドレアス・フォグラーが出席し、プレ

ゼンテーションを行います。

本展覧会はスイス大使館及びイタリア文化会館の協力のもと開催の実現に至りました。

Architecture and Vision was founded in 2002, when Arturo Vittori (left) and Andreas Vogler (right) met at a congress of the European Space Agency. Educated as architects, they share a keen interest in technology and the endless beauty of the world. Projects shown in the exhibition include DesertSeal, which is part of the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Arts MoMA in New York, First and Business Class for Asiana Airlines, La Macchina di Santa Rosa di Viterbo and the MercuryHouseOne, which was presented at the Biennale in Venice in 2009.

在日スイス大使館及びイタリア文化会館の共催で「アーキテクチャーアンドヴィジョン‐ピラミッドから宇宙船まで」展を開催いたします。展覧会ではアーキテクチャーアンドヴィジョンの建築及びプロダクトデザインが紹介されます。自然の美しさにヒントを得、科学と技術によって形になったこれらの作品はクリエイティブで優雅であり、それによりイタリア人建築家、アルトゥーロ・ヴィットーリとスイス人建築家、アンドレアス・フォグラーは国際的に認められました。本展覧会は完成予想図、マルチメディアのディスプレイとスケール・モデルにより構成されています。

The Embassy of Switzerland in Japan and the Italian Cultural Institute in Tokyo are proud to bring to Japan the exhibition “Architecture and Vision: From Pyramids to Spacecraft”.The exhibition presents selected architectural and product design projects by ‘Architecture and Vision.’ Inspired by the beauty of nature and brought to life by science and technology, these works exemplify the creative, elegant solutions for which the founders, Italian architect Arturo Vittori and Swiss architect Andreas Vogler, have been internationally recognized.The exhibit features renderings, multimedia displays and scale models.

The opportunity to exhibit in Tokyo and to use the time of stopovers in Beijing and Shanghai to make many contacts has been very rewarding.

The exhibition in Tokyo was well received and resulted in very positive reactions. People are impressed, that architects working in these variety of fields and implement an strong environ-mental concern.

The 2 weeks spend in Japan have been used to consolidate existing and to build up new academic contacts. During the 3 week trip 8 lectures have been given by Arturo Vittori and Andreas Vogler, 6 in Japan and 2 in China.

The collaboration between the Embassy of Switzerland and the Italian Cultural Institute proofed very fruitful, since it basically doubled our contact potential in the academic and non-academic world and helped with the overall exhibition costs. Arturo Vittori and Andreas Vogler represented themselves through their work as innovative, high-profile designers and architects, European, but with a global mind, which will support the public image of Switzerland and Italy as leading nations of design, architecture, sustainability and innovation and hopefully lead to projects and commissions in the Far East.

The opportunity to fly to Tokyo allowed Arturo Vittori and Andreas Vogler to book a reasonably priced Air China ticket with stopover in Beijing and Shanghai. These stopovers where used for meetings about future exhibitions and lectures at Chinese universities.
