Friday 24th April Welcome to Wanganui

10.55 am Depart Auckland Airport for Wanganui.

11.55 am Arrive at Wanganui Airport.

12.15 pm Lunch in town.

1.00 pm Mayoral Reception and Wanganui District Council Chambers. Meet our local Mayor Annette Main and Member of Parliament, Chester Burrows.

2.15 pm Educational Tour of the ground floor of the Whanganui Regional Museum. Experience

harakeke (flax weaving).

3.45 pm Check into hotel.

6.30 pm Dinner and live entertainment at Wanganui UCOL.

Saturday 25th April (ANZAC Day - Public Holiday)

Glass Blowing and Local Attractions 5.00 am Optional ANZAC Day Dawn Parade Service.

Dawn Service is to commemorate those who have fallen at war, namely those that landed at Gallipoli on the 25th of April 1915 during World War I. Dawn marks the time of initial landings on Gallipoli and holds the symbolism of darkness making way for a new day.

7.00 am Return to hotel for breakfast.

9.00 am Tour around key locations in the city and wider community.

10.45 am Chronicle Glass. Blow your own souvenir glass paperweight. This is a one on one introduction to the basics of working with hot glass.

Glass Blowing Requirements:

1. Cotton clothing and closed in footwear. Chronicle Glass will supply safety glasses.

2. A drink bottle.

3. You must be able to conduct yourself safely in the studio.

4. Reasonable health and the ability to withstand the heat and physical demands of glassblowing.

What to bring:

• You MUST wear cotton clothing for your protection. Synthetics are NOT acceptable. Cotton jeans or khaki are the preferred pants.

• To ensure foot protection in case of dropped hot glass: comfortable leather or canvas shoes, boots or athletic shoes with leather or canvas tops.

• Hair tie (for those with long hair).

1.00 pm Lunch. River Traders and Farmers Market.

2.30 pm Continue tour around the Wanganui wider region including Kai Iwi beach.

4.30pm Return to hotel

Sunday 26th April

Bridge to Nowhere Tour

8.00 am Depart hotel for Pipiriki

10.00 am Bridge to Nowhere Jet Boat Tour. Note that this tour includes a 40 minute bush walk.

What to bring:

* Shower and wind-proof jacket

* Suitable clothing for the time of year

* Sunglasses

* Hat

* Walking shoes

Tour Description

Travelling upstream into the middle reaches of the Whanganui River you will feel as if time has stood still. Pristine native bush cloaks the banks and you will see deep gorges covered with ferns, caves, rapids and other unique and amazing scenery. Your guide will share stories of the awa (Maori for “river”) with you and show you some of the secrets of this historic and cultural icon.

On the bush walk you will hear the native tui and bellbirds, and maybe catch a glimpse of a wood pigeon. Continue on through the bush until you arrive at the historic “Bridge to Nowhere” - gateway to the “Valley of Abandoned Dreams.”

A picnic lunch is included on the trip.

2.00 pm Depart Pipiriki for Wanganui.

4.00 pm Arrive back at the hotel.

9.30 am Meet in hotel lobby. Head to Rangitikei Farmstay. Experience:

* Sheep shearing and mustering demonstration

* Farm tour on 4 wheel-drive

* Feeding animals

* Farm museum

* Claybird shooting

* Golf

* BBQ lunch included

3.00 pm Depart Rangitikei Farmstay for Wanganui.

3.30 pm Arrive at hotel.

Tuesday 28th April 6.00 am Depart hotel for Wanganui Airport.

6.50 am Depart Wanganui for Auckland.

7.50 am Arrive at Auckland Airport. Catch a shuttle to Sky City.
